Veggie deliveries start NEXT week!!😮 If you haven’t got your membership yet, today is your very last chance to sign up on time to get in on next week’s deliveries (note that biweekly shares start the week after next week). Here’s the link: https://green hart farms.ca/spring-2026-csa-2

This week we got the potatoes planted, put more onion transplants in, and cleaned up our pack shed so we have a clean place to work (it’s amazing how messy it can get in there!). The dogs finally found the ideal place from which to pup-ervise all of the humans.

❗️If you got an email or emails yesterday saying that a payment plan or order has been created, when you didn’t actually order from us recently, don’t worry- no new order or payment plans have been created!! We’re migrating our ordering to a new system and I forgot to turn of the emails 😮🤦‍♀️. The system thinks that it all old orders/payments are new ones at a certain stage in the migration. Sorry about this!

Only 21 days until we need to have something to harvest for our first veggie deliveries!😮

We've been busy laying biodegradeable mulch, transplanting, weeding our hoophouses, cleaning out the cooler, planting seeds, and potting up plants in the last few days. It's a crazy time of year- and a bit stressful.

We're always wondering if we're going to have enough veggies to fill orders for that first week, and if our plants will grow quickly enough (but not too quickly, because we don't want bolted lettuce or bok choi!).

When it gets cold, we really start to worry that things won't grow quickly enough; when it gets warm and sunny it gets hot quickly in our hoophouses, so we worry that our cold tolerant spring greens will be triggered to bolt (go to seed) early.

Then there are the pests- sometimes flea beetles and slugs decide to make an early debut and devour our crops😬- which is why we spent some time covering our brassicas with insect netting this week.

Sometimes it feels like we just can't win! But in the 10 years we have been doing this, we have somehow always had something good to harvest for the first week, and we know that we will have enough again this year 🙂

FYI, If you haven't got your veggie box membership yet, we still have some spaces available in our veggie box program. All of the info is here: https://greenhartfarms.ca/spring-2026-csa/

25 days till first veggie deliveries! 😮

Yesterday we were laying biodegradable mulch and getting some plant babies in the ground before the rain. Today the soil is too wet to do anything, so we’re glad that we put the extra effort in!

Now we’re looking forward to a day off tomorrow.

Veggie box details are here at https://greenhartfarms.ca if you haven’t got your share yet.

The count down is on! ⏰

There are ONLY 27 days left to the first veggie deliveries of the season !!!😮

We’ve been busy taking advantage of this stretch of good weather.

Today we’ve been getting the gardens tilled so that we can plant seeds outside and lay biodegradable mulch for all of those lettuce, onion, and other seedlings 🌱 waiting to get their roots in the ground. Hopefully some of them will get transplanted tomorrow 🤞

Meanwhile, inside the cold frames, things are growing like crazy- weeds included. 😬

Guess we’ll have something to do next week when it’s not as nice outside …

We still have a few veggie box memberships available if you haven’t signed up yet- you can see all the details here: https://greenhartfarms.ca

I can't believe that we haven't posted since June! Well, it's been quite the season. . .the record setting July heat was great for some crops (like tomatoes), but not so great for things like lettuce and spinach.

We had a full on potato beetle invasion that resulted in us spending hours and hours picking bugs in the potatoes 🙄-and questioning our dedication to not using chemical pesticides. . . Our modified air conditioner in the cooler decided to break down on the HOTTEST day of July. . .As usual we managed to get behind on weeding LOL,🤷‍♀️ although for us it was a dry summer as well so we were constantly triage irrigating to conserve water. Somehow a lot of rains seemed to miss us (or maybe it's my imagination). Or maybe it just seems extra dry because veggies need an inch of water per week for ideal conditions- that's a LOT of water.

On the bright side, we had a bumper crop of tomatoes, and a surprisingly good garlic harvest (we thought that the leek moths might have ruined a bunch of bulbs before we got to harvesting, but it turns out that they didn't!) . Our final veggie deliveries went out before the cold yucky weather really kicked in, so that's a score, too 👍

Our veggie season is over, but now we're making wreaths and christmas planters, so we can't go into hibernation just yet. . .not that we really do. ..it's just a nice thought😂
