The problem: It’s cold outside, and we lose a remarkable amount of heat through our heads.

The cotton industry is notorious for its negative impact on the environment—from landfills overflowing with barely used clothing waste to waterways polluted by agrochemicals to the over-use of water and other natural resources. Our Standards, though, protect farmers’ health and safety, ban more than 200 hazardous pesticides and don’t allow the use of GMO seeds. Fairtrade cotton fields in India and Western Africa are also rain-fed, reducing the region’s water footprint. Oh, and a new study, whose scope included 850 farmers across six Indian states, demonstrated that Fairtrade organic cotton results in 45% lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to non-Fairtrade cotton (grown with either organic or conventional methods)!

In celebration of Fair Trade Month and in partnership with Fairtrade Canada, SPP and the Canadian Fair Trade Network we’re holding a webinar on October 29th to discuss Coffee Connections to Culture and Land: Decolonization through Fair Trade! 🌎☕️

Our General Manager Joey Pittoello will be joined by some great voices in the world of fair trade such as:

- Grandmother White Sea Turtle, Dr. Lorraine Whitman, Mi’kmaw Elder
