Does anyone remember seeing the accountability post I did at the beginning of Spring?

Well, here is a recap of the farm projects that have been completed this summer.

🐔 Chicken Coop - the siding is done, the facia board is up, I reinforced the sagging gate, and I installed a new latch so I dont have to prop the door closed with a shovel. It still need the Soffitting and the corner trim installed (both of which I have purchased already).

🥕 Wash station - I was gifted an old metal sink. Along with some scrap from other projects, I built a handy new wash station by the garden, just in time to start harvesting everything before first frost hits.

🚪 Door trim - after finding out the front door wasnt installed properly I knew I had to get to the back door. The back door ended up being a bigger project then I expected, but doesn't it look so good!?

🔥 Fire proofing and general cleanup - I put a listing on Facebook offering firewood for free, if they came and bucked it up. Now my pastures are all cleaned up and looking a lot better.

The farm is currently safe and unaffected by the wildfires in the Cariboo. Though we are in the middle of 3, they are a decent distance from us and we are just dealing with the smoke.

My home is open and available of anyone needs somewhere to shelter with horses or livestock.

It is close access to highway 97, in 100 mile house, and near the turn off to highway 24.

10 acres, 3 with permanent perimeter fencing.
Electric cross fencing on pastures.
Lots of fresh water taps.
2 horse shelters and a round pen that can be turned into pens if needed.

You can camp on property with your critters.

3 pure Copper maran hens, 1 year old and actively laying. They are covered currently by a Americana Roo and their eggs have had very good hatching rates. 3️⃣0️⃣ per 🐔

Also have 9x 8 week old Easter Egger/olive egger pullets. Off heat and integrated into the big coop. 1️⃣5️⃣ per 🐥

3x 4 week old easter eggers/olive egger, off heat unless the temperature dips to low over night. 8️⃣ per 🐥

For your consideration...

3 pure Copper maran hens, 1 year old and actively laying. They are covered currently by a Americana Roo and their eggs have had very good hatching rates. 3️⃣0️⃣ per 🐔

The garden is an utter mess of dandelions and other weeds. However, hidden amongst those weeds are the fruits of my labor... sort of.

🐔 I had a hen get out of the chicken run and scratch up most of my carrot seedlings.

🍃 Some of the seeds I planted didn't germinate.

🌱 Some of the seeds I bought and seedlings I grew... I didn't make it into the garden.

This is the "not so pretty" but realistic side of homesteading and gardening. Sorry it isn't curated or filtered 🤷‍♀️

A beginners introduction to packing on horses, as well as dutch oven cooking.

It is susposed to rain, but we will be undercover.

This is why people do rotational grazing, and having animals on pasture can be beneficial in regenerative agriculture. I wouldn't quite call myself a regenerative farmer, but here is something I've noticed.

3 years ago, when I only had 4 hens and was still working on the chicken coop, they were in a chicken tractor in my front yard. I pulled it forward about once a week. I only had them touch about half the front yard before the coop was ready.

I can see a visible difference between where the chickens were vs. where they weren't. I guess I need to bring them back over and even out the yard.
