🚲 Happy World Bicycle Day! 🚲

Whether you ride for fun, fitness, fresh air, or because parking downtown is… an adventure 😄

Today is all about celebrating the simple joy of two wheels.

Fun fact: bikes also help build a healthier, greener, and more well nourished community 💛

Now tell us… road bike, mountain bike, or “I haven’t ridden since I was 12”? 👇

Did you know? At the food bank, many non-perishable foods can still be safely distributed up to 1 year past their best before date 💛

Here’s the important part: a “best before” date is not the same thing as an expiry date.

For canned and shelf-stable foods, best before dates are often about peak freshness or texture...not food safety. In fact, studies have shown that many unopened canned goods remain perfectly safe to consume well beyond that date when stored properly.

That means less food waste, more food rescued, and more meals for local families.

So next time you’re cleaning out your pantry, don’t automatically toss those canned goods! Check them over for damage, rust, swelling, or broken seals and if they’re still in good condition, they may still be able to help feed a neighbour in need.

One can really can make a difference 💛

🥛 Happy World Milk Day! 🥛

Today we’re raising a glass to one of the most requested items at the food bank 💙

From cereal before school to coffee in the morning, milk is one of those everyday essentials that helps keep families going.

And fun fact… fresh milk disappears around here fast 😄

Here’s to strong bones, happy coffee drinkers, and building a well nourished community together 🥛💛

One of the things we wish more people could see is everything that happens behind the scenes of our food bank.

It takes early mornings, late nights, tough conversations, big decisions, incredible volunteers, generous donors, community partners, and a team of people who care deeply about their neighbours.

Thank you to Life In The Hills for featuring our Executive Director, Heather Hayes, and offering a glimpse into some of the work that happens behind the scenes at the Orangeville Food Bank.

What we love most about this story is that it reminds us that building a well nourished community is truly a team effort. Every volunteer shift, every food donation, every financial gift, every shared post, and every act of kindness helps make this work possible.

A well nourished community doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because people choose to show up for one another every single day.

We’re grateful to everyone who walks alongside us in this work and helps ensure that our neighbours have access to the food and support they need.

Take a moment to give the article a read and learn a little more about the people, passion, and hard work that help keep our shelves stocked and our doors open.
