Plant thought Thursday! Let's talk temperature! The temperature you grow plants at is very important!

Some plants like warmer temperatures and some plants like cooler temperatures. Some examples of plants that like warmer temperatures are sweet potato vine, portulaca, coleus, pumpkins, beans, cucumbers to name a few. Plants that like cooler temperatures include pansies, petunias, peas, radishes, lettuce and more.

Also, make sure to watch the night time temperatures and watch for frost. Plants that have been grown in the greenhouse are further along than outside. Watch nature - once the trees start getting leaves nature is telling us we are getting closer to summer. It takes a while for the soil to warm up!

Here are all the sun combination pots we have this year! These all come in a 1 gal pot or 14" basket and feature three different plants. The 1 gallon pot is perfect for planting in your own pot! We have lots of new combinations this year and so many colours to choose from!

Plant Thought Thursday! Let's talk about soil! At Cornucopia Gardens we use Pro-mix with Mycorrhizae which is a peat-based, soilless growing medium containing Glomus intraradices fungi. It improves water/nutrient uptake, reduces plant stress, and enhances root development. Promix contains a mix of pertlie and vermiculite which helps retain moisture as well as let the plant roots breath.

Here are some helpful hints for growing at home:
In pots:
- Make sure you use a potting mix. If you want to use garden soil make sure you mix it with a lighter potting mix or Promix. Garden soil will not provide adequate drainage for plants if that is all you use in pots
- it's okay to reuse soil from previous years as long as you break up the soil and add some new potting mix to the pot

Direct in ground:
- if soil is too heavy make sure to add lighter options such as peat moss or Promix. Plant roots need access to air as well as water.
