Ravenhill Herb Farm

Ravenhill Herb Farm Book at ravenhillherbfarm.ca Her husband, Andrew Yeomen, was also an author and amazing gardener.

Ravenhill Herb Farm is a unique heritage site on the side of Mount Newton, a working permaculture farm with ocean views and two Airbnb suites: Raven's Nest (sleeps 5) and The Nook (sleeps 2). This magical place is incredibly inspirational, and Brea, Todd and their children couldn’t be more honoured to be the guardians of this land. This history here is rich – this is after all rumoured to be the l

ocation of Saanichton’s first schoolhouse and more recently is where Noel Richardson wrote her 4 famous cookbooks and contributed to CityFood Magazine for years while peering out over the spectacular gardens. Together they created a very special place that at the time (1979 until 2014) required from them a significant leap of faith and subsequently plunged them into the world of organic farming. An adventure like theirs has been something that Brea has dreamed about since childhood, and for her the reality of living this dream is much sweeter then she could ever have imagined. In tending to Ravenhill Herb Farm, Brea and Todd aim to be stewards of sustainable and regenerative practices. They are dedicated to taking a holistic approach to every aspect of farm life – from growing produce and raising chickens and goats, to living in a conscientious manner. They don’t use toxic chemicals/pesticides/herbicides of any type, as nature has created an incomparable symbiotic environment where the harmful effects of pests and fungi can be mitigated naturally. Brea believes in a regenerative approach to land care: in order to continuously improve the environment and foster the healthiest produce, she tends to the soil so its health will increase each year rather than decrease. When soil is at its optimal health, what you eat from the land will also have its highest nutrient and nourish the earth. Brea and Todd are dedicated to continuous learning and realize that although the learning curve will always be steep when it comes to nourishing the farm, it will also hold many wonderful surprises. They are so excited to be living this adventure and to be able share it with the community!
