More Grateful Than We Could Ever Say
Retiring The Urban Deli
It is with mixed emotions that after an amazing ride of ten years that we announce the retirement of the Urban Deli brand effective Tuesday, December 24th, 2019. Our building on 68 King has been sold.
When we opened in 2009 we set a goal for ourselves and that goal was to work hard for ten years. We are so fortunate to have realized our set goals and in our time frame.
We appreciate and love Saint John for embracing and welcoming us to this awesome little city that has become our home. We have many fond memories of 68 King Street, from the early construction days where we literally touched every brick in the building ... truly, blood, sweat and tears ... no money just a vision. “You Got to Eat Here” TV Show... are you kidding me ... we were blown away!
This little restaurant became a destination and we are humbled. We’ve hosted amazing life events, proposals, weddings, divorce parties, birthday parties, reunions, first dates, and celebrations of life... a microcosm of life.
To our numerous customers, friends, and extended adopted family, thank you for your patronage and support, for embracing the Deli concept and making it a truly recognizable brand in Saint John and beyond our borders.
To the cast of characters who over the years have walked through our doors and toiled long and hard ... front of house and kitchen, it’s been a journey. We’ve grown together and as individuals ... love, and not so much love, but always with the common goals of excellence in customer service and product quality. Thank you for your contribution to those goals! (our brand)
The future is now ... the Urban Deli provided us the opportunity to explore other culinary experiences in Saint John by the name of Italian by Night: Deli by Day / Italian by Night. The evolution is now complete and it’s time to pay respect to the past and to focus efforts and dedication on the present and future.
It is Christmas and our staff will be well taken care of...of course. The new owner will be opening under her own brand name Up Town Eatery and has offered to keep the team – the team that was our magic!
Thank You Saint John!!
Elizabeth and Gord
