It's Saturday, which means the Horton Farmers' Market is OPEN 8am-12pm, rain or shine!!💓
And, let's be honest, grabbing a fresh croissant, picking newly harvested vegetables and local dairy and meats for the week, and enjoying a little sweet treat or finding a new handmade piece is worth getting a little rained on (and our outdoor pavilions and indoor market building will keep you mostly dry). 🌧️🌥️☀️
See you soon!

The DeBackere family has been proudly farming in Elgin County since 1969. Originally they grew to***co, but when Dan purchased the farm from his parents in 2005 they transitioned to 100% fresh vegetables and gained their food safety certification with lots of hard work by Dan and Joanna.

All their crops are grown from seed and are hand planted, hand picked, and hand packaged right on farm! DeBackere Farms has been proudly coming to the Horton Farmers' Market for over at least 20 years, and they have become community staples known for their delicious asparagus, tomatoes, peppers, famous sweet corn, and more.

One of the great things about Farmers' Markets is the opportunity to build relationships with the farmers you see every week beyond the market through social media.

That bond provides a few behind-the-scenes peeks at farm life. Congratulations on your newest addition Field Of Greens CSA Farmaddition

Our moma bird has successfully hatched one of her babies in the strawberries. Safe space💚💚💚

🚨Frank has an important PSA for Horton Farmers' Market shoppers!!🚨

As the season ramps up, we have an important reminder: our outdoor market grounds and pavilions are dog-friendly, but NO DOGS are permitted inside the market building unless they are service animals.🐕‍🦺

We love to see your furry friends at the market on Saturdays, but because they must stay outside, it's also a great excuse to bring a friend along to shop with you and stay with them. (If you're really stuck, ask the market staff for help.)

📝Please also remember that City of St. Thomas bylaws require all dogs to be on leashes, and we ask if you have a reactive or aggressive dog to please leave them at home. The market can get very busy, and we don't want anyone to get scared by the people, music, and hustle and bustle of our market mornings.

Thank you for respecting the market rules so everyone can have the best possible market experience, and we can't wait to see you (and maybe Frank) on Saturdays from 8am-12pm!

Beautiful radishes have been gracing us at the market lately, and while nothing is as good as a fresh radish, a delicious sweet pickled radish is perfect for summer time salads, picnics, and snacks!😋❤️

Did you know that radishes are an excellent source of vitamin C, as well as other nutrients including folate, magnesium and potassium. They are also a prebiotic food, meaning they help fuel good gut bacteria.🦠

Radish greens can also be used in pestos, sautéed in stir fries and frittatas, and even chopped finely into salads!

It's local food week from June 1-7, and it maybe feels a bit silly to highlight it on one hand because it's ALWAYS local food week around here.

But it is an important reminder about how fortunate we are to live in a location surrounded by so many incredible small farms working hard to feed their families, community, and neighbours.

Small farms tend to be more rooted in the community; there's still a family behind the name and not a faceless corporation. They are looking to make a living, not a fortune.

They show up for us, and come harvest, it's our turn to show up for them.

Every Saturday at the Horton Farmers' Market.
