Ingrid of Perstitchity Creations has some vegetables coming to market -- NAMELY Peas. Sugar-snap peas and regular peas she'll be bringing. The hot, droughty weather has made them in short supply this season! Just how much the yellow zucchini grow will determine if she's bringing them this Saturday or next.

As you can see from the tour of her backyard garden and greenhouse, she has other things waiting in the wings. Ingrid's Tomatoes have lots of blossoms. We spotted the first of her little watermelons forming. Her winter-turnips (rutabaga) are colossal in size, and outright shocked Chris when he took his short tour through with Ingrid.

Her garden is a combination of a decent sized greenhouse, with a few spacious raised beds that she put together in earnest in 2025.

Remember, at the Algoma Farmers' Market, we try REAL hard to convert our crafters and other non-producing vendors into producing ones! Local produce, local products from your neighbours in the city, and other parts of Algoma District.

Next market is Saturday August 1st, 8:30am to 1:00pm, at Roberta Bondar Park (65 Foster Drive). Come support, eat, and use local!

Throwback Tuesday (no... not Thursday - some of us are busy weeding or picking then!)

Chris Wilding's Dad's cousins were talking, and the one gave him a book that has a treasure trove of old ads and notes and articles about the Algoma Farmers' Market under it's prior name in the 1970s and 1980s. Their father, Alec Wilding used to belong to the Algoma Farmers' Market for decades. Most of this book was carefully compiled by Alice Wilding, his wife.

This is flyer design from 1979. So, NO, we're not opening up at 7!

But ... we used to. Notice the same emphasis on locally grown/sourced produce and items, like we do today!

We'll pop in some of these blasts-from-the-past over the coming weeks each Tuesday. Do you remember going to the market when it was near Dennis Street? Or another location than our current one the past 3 decades at Roberta Bondar Park?

Just clearing up a misconception some have: We're the OUTDOOR *Farmers' Market* downtown ... the only one that's open air, all weather, all conditions.

We didn't move. We didn't close down during the pandemic, even. We've been there every Saturday June-October (Thanksgiving) since the early 1990s.

The Algoma Farmers' Market -- under a tent, NOT in a building. You wouldn't confuse Metallo's for Walmart, or Millie's for Metro. Same with us -- we're the OUTDOOR farmers' market, with local produce, baking, preserves, crafts, and more.

Everything we sell is made or harvested by the vendors you're talking to. Come buy local to Algoma, Ontario, Canada. Buy Canadian, by patronizing the Algoma Farmer's Market. (Edited)

(Editor's note: We require that produce and products from our vendors are made here in Algoma District. We make it clear that we require this local origin. We are proud of the origin of where our vendors grow, produce, harvest and make the things they sell to you.)

We're open EVERY Saturday from 8:30am to 1pm -- next market is July 25. Be there be it rain, shine, sun, ... oh, you'd better not say snow! Not 'til winter, please and thank you!

Just an update from Mike and Karen Poirrier -- they will be bringing amongst other things -- some raspberries, rhubarb, and some sugar-snap peas (edible pods)

Karen said they'll ALSO have a few zucchini flowers, green onions and mixed salad greens. And new muffins: Cranberry Orange!

The Poirriers, along with our other vendors, will be there at the Roberta Bondar Park and Marina -- the little tent by the big pavillion, with lots of parking at 65 Foster Drive on Saturday July 25, 2026

Market starts at 8:30am down at Roberta Bondar Park.

It is "breezy" out, and misty right now...

Christopher Wilding spotted the Rotary float trundling downtown to stage for their Rotary Day Parade too!

The smoke and air quality will not prevent the Algoma Farmers' Market from being open.

Of *course*, if you have young children, or have health or respiratory issues that could be affect you, either limit your trip time outside, or consider contacting vendors to make arrangements to have things brought to you.

We expect and understand that our customers will use common sense and mind the air quality levels published to guide their decisions.

Over on the west end of town -- the air is MUCH clearer than it has been the past three days, thankfully!

And we have had our first bout of rain where I've been picking some vegetables we're trying to bring to our own table at market.

There'll be a mix of baking, crafts, vegetables, canning, Maple syrup products, and honey at market -- all of it local, because we require that all our vendors bring or make their own products!

We'll be open air, under the little tent by the big pavilion at Roberta Bondar Park & Marina for the Saturday July 18th market, from 8:30am to 1pm

That's 65 Foster Drive. Of note: If the Rotary Club is still going to have the Rotary Day Parade, they're using Bay Street -- and access will be off of St Mary's Drive onto Foster and back, if you're driving.

Lots of fresh produce, crafts, canning, baking , maple syrup and honey to be had this sunny breezy day under the shade of our tent!
