Getting back into the swing of things for another season with Algoma Farmers' Market. Just so
I didn't make any boo boos- I got my recipes out for Gumdrop, Pumpkin Raisin,Lemon Poppyseed and Chocolate Zucchini loaves- minis($3.50) and bigs($12).

I love using my freeze dried apples, shredded zucchini
and pumpkin/squash for the recipes- just have rehydrate with water and add to recipes- no
more having to remember to bring items out of the freezer to thaw- and no wastage just mix up the amount needed for the recipes.

Come and see us Saturdays at Bondar Park 8:30-1:00( plus there are other bakers there too with tempting goodies).

Only 2 more days to the openng of Algoma Farmers' Market for 2026 season.

With the late spring the garden is a bit behind this year( plus we snuck in two vacations in the past 2 months) so we'll have bunches or rhubarb and maybe some fresh green onions this Saturday- and as the plants and planting go along there will be more fresh produce.

We will have our baking, jams and jellies, antipasto and crafts available this Saturday- at Bondar Park from 8:30-1:00. We will have to sort through our plants next week- plant the ones we need to and then can bring some for sale the following week. We're hoping fellow vendors will have seedlings this week- we do know Salamander Ridge will have fiddleheads- a spring delicacy!

Looking forward to seeing our regular customers and new ones too- we'll keep you updated about the garden. Hope to see you Saturday.

We're not the only gardeners in the family- my brother in Scarborough has a beautiful garden that will be showcased in the Scarborough Horticultural Society's garden tour in July- it's a nice sanctuary in a big city. And he has discovered in our Henderson ancestors two of our great greats that were professional gardeners in Britain in the 1800's. The big tree is a Norway Maple that is about 60-70 years old and my brother has been here about 25 years and keeps expanding the landscape.

Will be home Sunday to put more garden in at Wilding Acres.

We had a great time at our neighbour's Grand Opening this weekend.

Chris tried taking that last photo of the remaining jars of Antipasto and you all just kept him hopping, snatching just one more ... Making him snap another thinking he was done... You kept him on his toes all weekend!

Thanks for Rob and the crew at New North Greenhouses for being gracious hosts. We and the other invited vendors loved the atmosphere... And not actually getting rained on early Saturday morning was a bonus!

We loved seeing you come by, new and old faces, to talk or to pick something up off our table. Fingers crossed we have a good next few weeks to roll out our garden next!

Now, Christopher Robin Wilding has to let Susan know many things need restocking before June rolls around.

Letting our followers know that Chris will be manning our table at New North Greenhouse's Grand Opening this weekend from 10-3 Saturday and Sunday. Susan is back from holiday and baked up Date Oatmeal Cookies - both the large and trays of minis plus yummy Rice Krispie Squares. Our assortment of jams and Antipasto
will also be available and for the kitchen - cotton dishcloths and kitchen scrubbies.

There will be many other vendors and entertainment and of course the main attraction of bedding plants and hanging baskets, garden gadgets that New North Greenhouse is famous for. If you haven't bought your Mothers' Day presents yet there will be lots for you to choose from!

Sheldon and Terry checking out the garlic patch! About 4" green growth was hiding under the snow. We should have enough garlic this year to sell with pickling cucumber orders plus on the table. I freeze dried a batch of garlic last month and still have some fresh heads in the fridge. Love adding our garlic to recipes !

It was another jam making session today- Peach, Blueberry Cointreau, Raspberry Delight and Pear Jelly today- last week I made Cranberry Orange, Strawberry , Blueberry and Apple Jelly.

I was able to add Pear Jelly to our repertoire this winter as we harvested about 3 bushels of pears from our big tree last fall. As I was peeling and cutting up pears for the freezer- I saved the cores and peels- cooked them up with water- strained and froze the pear juice. Just like I found out that pear pies taste even better than apple- Pear Jelly tops Apple Jelly too and the colour is excellent.

I added the photo of the potatoes( one of my favourite veggies) because I had old videos of America's Test Kitchen on while jam making- and found out where the word " pothole" came from- the Irish would often cook their potatoes outside - when they went to mash them - the force of mashing would compact the soil under the pot- and when they lifted the pot off the ground they had a " pothole"!!!! I thought it was appropriate to pass on this bit of info on as we definitely are in pothole season in the Sault right now -and we can't blame it on the Irish!!

Hard to believe that these onion seedlings will produce beautiful, delicious big red onions! Still have about 10 big reds left from last season. I freeze dried a lot about a month ago- so have lots to use - should be able to have onions for sale at our tables this summer at Algoma Farmers' Market.

Watering day- pretty pleased with these 14 trays of pepper plants! And you can see why they are still inside the house with still a good amount of snow on the ground. We're hoping to get the greenhouse ready for planting these next two weeks.
