What to do with a bushel of green peppers!!!

Two extra large bags of pepper halves to make stuffed peppers through the winter and spring.

Plus another round of diced peppers in the freeze dryer.

We'll bring some green peppers to Algoma Farmers' Market on Saturday but will also let them start to ripen to red on the plants.

So easy to make coleslaw with our crisp cabbage( this one split when Terry cut it).

I just cut what I want to use and put the rest in a bag in the fridge- then I added dried cranberries and pecan pieces and coleslaw dressing and voila done- easy peasy and delicious.

We'll be bringing cabbages for the rest of the season- they are all summer cabbages - so very crisp and delicious-perfect for slaw, cooked cabbage wedges and cabbage rolls.

Having a split-tomato and shrewcumber snack pausing the tomato pick before lunch.

One of the perks of eating fresh grown local food

We're going to have plenty of tomatoes and eater or relish sized cucumbers aplenty, along with massive amounts of pickling dill too!

Going to have about 1-2 bushels of beautiful, fresh, crisp green peppers at the Algoma Farmers' Market tomorrow on our tables!

Maximum truck bouncing to get from field to table: 15km / 10 miles... And you can ask the folks that picked tem any questions... 'cause the same folks that picked them also sell them to you.

Ever ask at a grocery store how old their peppers are? Or whom might've picked them? That's the advantage of buying local from us: you will know!

Today was not only jam making day but also to put away some of our veggies in the freezer or pantry.

These were veggies we had left over from Saturday's market and I didn't want them to go to waste!

Green peppers are very easy to preserve-I chose to run a batch through the freeze dryer - but peppers freeze nicely-just cut to the size you want bag and freeze- no need to blanch.

Corn is much easier to cut raw off the cob then blanch( I now use my microwave pot instead of on top of the stove).

The broccoli was from side shoots- the broccoli is really starting to produce now- and as long as you cut the main head when it's ready it can produce lots of nice side shoots .

Now you know why I sometimes have "brain freezes" at market on Saturdays-we're not only busy on Thursdays and Fridays but also the rest of the week!

Tried something new for supper tonight-Stuffed Peppers with diced potatoes instead of rice and I used Jake's Makes Easy- Hungarian paprika spice mix- the spice mix was spot on for flavour and just a bit of heat. Despite loving potatoes I think I would go back to using rice in stuffed peppers -it would absorb more of the liquid from the peppers and I felt the potatoes got lost in the mix. But I will try making Hungarian Goulash with the spice mix and serve over mashed potatoes- we'll see how they taste tomorrow as often a casserole or soup tastes better the next day.

I used all our own garden vegetables- green and red peppers, garlic, onions, tomatoes, corn and potatoes.

Gearing up for the rest of the pick for Saturday's market.

Just letting the bunch of you folks know:

We are leaving early, rare as it is. Everyone involved at the market is going to a family member's wedding. This means, Chris especially may need an additional powerwashing to look presentable. And that, takes time, and will cut into order requests that were not already placed!

So we're aiming to leave packed up at 1pm sharp. Tiempo punto! ... So we make the wedding.

For the market picked and ready:
- yellow and green beans
- garlic
- cucumbers
- tomatoes of several varieties

Corn is yet to be picked, ditto cabbages and broccoli... More pictures to come!

Corrected the date!

We're calling it: there will be corn at our table at the Algoma Farmers' Market on Saturday Aug 29th, 2026, 8:30 am to 1pm.
