So this happened a few days ago. Bear with me 'cause it's a bit long.

TLDR version is that Guinevere lambed twice in 6 months, which is astounding.

Guinevere was born in early 2024, along with her brother Arthur. They were raised as bottle lambs, and she had a set of triplets on January 16th, 2026. She raised her lambs unassisted, which is a huge deal under any circumstances, and they are still on pasture with her.

On July 9th I looked out the window and saw her standing by herself. And then I saw a little black lamb with her! Upon closer inspection there was also a white lamb!

This means she was re-bred about February 14th, which is a shockingly rare occurrence. Moreover, sheep have a breeding season that depends on shortening daylight hours, and February breeding almost never happens.

Some sheep operations aim to have three lamb crops in two years, but that involves hormone manipulation and keeping sheep in a dark barn during the summer and hoping that it works. Up here it's nearly impossible because summer days are so long; hence why we leave our rams with the ewes; hence how Guinevere accomplished this astounding feat of prolificacy.

We have her in a safe pen, and she's getting extra groceries, with her new little guys (Lancelot and Percival?? And actually they are big stout boys) till they are a bit older.

If Guinevere gets bred this fall she will have again defied the way things are supposed to work.

Happy New Year, everyone. We have openings for beef and pork, slaughter dates next week through February. Turnaround will be about four weeks for beef.

Lambing is going well, and the insane cold and snow seem to be behind us. There's some heat in the sun and the days are getting longer!

I'm attaching a bit of lamb spam. Guinivere was a bottle lamb and she just had a set of lovely triplets and she's being a very good mommy.πŸ₯°
