We had the best time hosting this field trip!

We talked about seeds, soil, compost, mulch, sunlight, bees and growing zones. We talked about raising bison, living on a farm, and how every animal, insect and rodent plays an important role in our ecosystem. We ate bison roast on homemade buns, veggies, fruit and fresh herbs from our greenhouse

Working with kids is always a pleasure and we absolutely love sharing our passion for food and farms with the community!

Rhubarb season is finally here ❤️

The last few years we have been experimenting with "forcing" our rhubarb plants in the the early spring and it has become our new favorite kind of rhubarb to eat

When we first see the plants peaking out of the ground, we cover them to block out all sunlight, creating a heat barrier and causing them to grow quickly searching for the sun

Doing this yields tender, pale, sweet stalks with very small leaves

We only do this in the early spring before temperatures become too hot. After we uncover the plants they will grow normally for the remainder of the season

Rhubarb is an incredibly hardy plant and one of our favorite spring crops!

We are making the first rhubarb pies of the season this week to celebrate! Available Wednesday

Are you a grower/gardener in SW Saskatchewan? We would love to hear from you!

We started a year round Farmer's Market to support our community, and that starts right at home. Everything we carry in our market is grown/made/produced right here in Saskatchewan, and we are always looking to expand our offerings

It's easy to dismiss the rhubarb patch growing along your tree rows, the crab apples that seem to always grow more than you can harvest, the asparagus someone seeded on your land years ago that often gets forgotten. We are here to ensure that these valuable local food sources don't go to waste!

Please reach out and let us know if this is you. We are happy to come help harvest as much as we can!

Items we are looking for this spring include; rhubarb, asparagus, spinach, spring onions and radishes

As we move into summer, we will be on the search for greens, peas, beans, cucumbers, carrots, raspberries, saskatoons, cherries, apples, tomatoes, haskaps, herbs and more

We use a huge amount of locally grown fruit and veggies in our baking, jams and canned goods, so we can almost always find a use for anything you are growing that might otherwise go to waste
