A bit of OUR STORY

What started as a roadside fruit stand in the 1960s has grown alongside our community, evolving into a year-round on farm grocery store, while never losing sight of where we came from. 200 acres of orchard and farmland right here in the Thornbury and Clarksburg, a market stocked with everything you need and didn’t know you needed, and a bakery that is frankly operating on another level.

Walk through the door and you’ll find fresh, local, in-season produce (a lot of it grown right on the farm), curated brands you won’t find just anywhere, and local meats, dairy, cheese, groceries, fresh cut flowers and then there’s the bakery. Oh, the bakery.

We need to talk about the Thornberry Pie. Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and apples under a crumble crust, baked fresh every single day. If you’ve tried it you already know. If you haven’t… run don’t walk 🥧

The Oakley family took over in 2013 with a simple idea: stock the shelves with things they’d put on their own table. Local, fresh, real. That’s still the whole mission.

Come visit us at 207600 Hwy 26, Thornbury — open 7 days a week. We’ll see you soon. 🌸

Eight months ago, we watched a building on one of our farms disappear in a matter of minutes.

Since then, rebuilding has mostly looked less like dramatic construction montages and more like:
• searching for tools that no longer have a home
• moving the same pile three different times
• trying to remember where things are supposed to go
• mentally redesigning a workspace while harvesting apples, running greenhouses, baking pies, and generally surviving life

But yesterday felt like a milestone. The concrete for the walls was finally poured on the new farm shed. And while it still just looks like construction to most people right now, in a couple of weeks it should finally start looking like an actual building again. This space will become a crucial component of our farming operation — storing tools and machinery, housing all the daily fix-it bits and pieces, filling pots with soil, starting seeds, transplanting flowers, and hopefully bringing back a little more organization to the chaos.

Rebuilding has been slower than we hoped. Probably another month or two to go. But after a long stretch of things feeling temporary and scattered, it’s nice to finally see something permanent taking shape again. And for everyone who checked in, helped out, shared kind words, or simply kept supporting us after the fire last September — thank you. Truly.

This is Kyle. Today is his birthday.

Unfortunately for him, he picked two terrible careers if he ever wanted a relaxing birthday weekend: farmer… and small business owner. 😂

Because when you own a farm market on a long weekend in May, it’s basically the Super Bowl. Everyone else is off work, finally exhaling after winter, heading to cottages, firing up barbecues, planting gardens and deciding they absolutely need pies, asparagus, flowers and just one quick stop at the market.

Meanwhile, Kyle’s birthday looks a little different.

It’s loading orders before breakfast. Fixing things that broke overnight. Moving skids. Restocking strawberries. Answering questions. Helping customers. Checking crops. Watching the weather radar like it personally offended him. And somewhere in there, maybe inhaling a coffee before it gets cold.

Honestly, I think a lot of people who grew up in farm families or own small businesses understand this kind of birthday. You celebrate later. Maybe after close. Maybe next week. Maybe with cake eaten standing at the kitchen counter while answering one last text message.

But truthfully, I don’t think he’d want it any other way.

So if you’re in today, wish Kyle a happy birthday. He’ll probably be carrying something heavy or pretending he doesn’t want the attention.

(And before anyone gets too excited — this photo is NOT from today. The peas are not ready yet. You’ve got about one more long weekend to wait. 🌱😂)
