That was a week and through it all, our farmers were out in the fields doing everything they could to continue to grow and harvest our food.
One of the best ways to thank them? Choose Ontario-grown. Whether it’s at a farmers’ market, farm stand, CSA, or your local grocery store, every time we choose locally grown food, we’re supporting local food systems, protecting farmland and biodiversity, reducing the distance our food travels, and investing in a more resilient future for our communities. Every local purchase is also a vote for a food system that values people, the environment and local farms in a world shaped by large-scale industrial agriculture.
Butttt, supporting local doesn’t mean risking your health, okay?? Sunday’s air quality is currently forecast to be 2 (Low Risk), which is great news!! If conditions change, please protect yourself. Wear a mask, keep your visit short, connect with vendors and see if they have pickup options. Your health always comes first.
We’re also exploring solutions to the extreme weather we’re experiencing (aka climate change!)to help ensure our market and local food system are resilient as our climate continues to break down. The plans are still in the early stages, but we’ll keep you posted as those plans develop.
We will also have the Toronto Environmental Alliance at the market this Sunday! If this past week has you thinking a little more about our environment and looking for ways to take action, stop by their booth. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the work they’re doing and discover simple ways we can all make a difference.
Let’s have a beautiful Sunday together, following this post will be the Sunday Market Things weekly post/newsletter full of all market details for tmw!
