Kensington Market area has been known as a cultural mosaic of Canada for centuries. Waves of immigrants – European Jews, Chinese, Portuguese, Jamaican – have made Kensington Market their own before moving on to make room for the next tile of our cultural mosaic. Those culturally rich populations have left their mark on the community, a few square blocks of small food-centric

merchants. Here, shopping is an activity, not a chore, as if supermarkets were never invented. Piles of ripe produce share airspace with the strong smells wafting out of cheese shops. An entire street is dedicated to second-hand clothing stores, perennially supplying the neighbourhood with the young looking for a bargain. While the number of food shops has dwindled, those remaining and emerging become more refined. Now there is a butcher focusing on Ontario meats, a farm-minded organic produce shop. Residents and merchants have rallied around the exclusion of large corporate interests to keep the neighbourhood a community. The hectic streets of Kensington, a chaotic patchwork of bylaws and cultures, can confound city planners and residents alike. But that’s what keeps it fresh. Councillor

As we look ahead to another exciting year in Kensington Market, we’re thrilled to turn our attention to one of our community’s most beloved annual street festivals: Pedestrian Sundays.

We’re inviting you to join our upcoming public meeting on Wednesday, March 5th, 2026. This year, in addition to planning for Pedestrian Sundays, we also want to hear from the community about how we can activate the neighbourhood around FIFA and make the most of this incredible opportunity for local businesses and visitors alike.

Your ideas and input are essential — the more voices at the table, the richer and more vibrant our programming will be.

You asked, we listened 💛 The Kensington Market Passports are now valid through March 1, 2026!

✨ Only a few passports left! Don’t miss out — grab yours before they run out!

🌟 How to Participate:
Pick up your passport. Visit any of the participating businesses listed inside and receive a stamp. Once you collect 5 stamps, scan the QR code on page 2 and register for the $1000 Grand Prize — a Kensington Market Shopping Spree! The deadline to register for the giveaway is March 1st, 2026.

The 2025 Kensington Market Passport is an initiative organized by the Kensington Market Community Land Trust, in collaboration with the Kensington Market Business Improvement Area (KMBIA). We’re grateful to local printmaker and artist Rochelle Rubenstein who is sharing some of her designs with us for the passport and the stamps again. This year, local artists Marie Sotto, Er Fong and Rosey Cheekes also contributed stamp designs. The passport booklet was designed by Marlo Yarlo. Collect all the stamps and hang onto your very own artist booklet for years to come!

The Kensington Market Passports have arrived and are available to pick up at select locations!!

🌟How to Participate:
Once you have picked up your passport you can go to any of the businesses listed in your passport and make a purchase. From there you will be given a stamp. Once you have 5 stamps you will be able to register for the $1000 grand prize, a Kensington Market Shopping Spree!!

🌟The Passport Program is active from now until February 14th 2026

🌟The prize winner will be selected on February 17th 2026
