Westside Mobile Food Market

Bringing community food markets to food deserts in Vancouver's Westside to create inclusive communities that provide accessible, fresh, affordable food for all.

Both the South Granville Senior's Centre and the Westside Food Collaborative care deeply about the local food system and connecting people to it - particularly our vulnerable community members with income, mobility, and other barriers. The Westside Mobile Food Market was born from a collaboration between SGSC and WFC after realizing seniors were going malnourished and hungry in South Granville. We assist seniors and other vulnerable populations living in food deserts on Vancouver's Westside that have access to few or no grocery stores or produce stands. We are open market, and anyone that wants to is encourage to buy local food from us! At our market, Individuals on low, fixed-incomes can find food at prices that fit their budgets, while other community members that shop with us will pay fair market value for local (often no-spray or organic) food, and help provide much-needed funds to support this project. In the 2013 pilot year the Westside Mobile Food Market held two weekly locations at South Granville Seniors Centre and Marpole Place Neighbourhood House. For the 2014 season we are hoping to expand to 4 or 5 weekly locations. Please stay tuned for the announcement of the 2014 market schedule and upcoming volunteer opportunities!
