Quick post to inform you of this nasty invader. Keep your eye open for these invasive a little monsters!
Remembering the phrase "leaves of three, let it be"
Poison ivy when young has a light reddish tinge to it's leaf, also you will notice one side of the leaf has a smooth edge and the other side of the leaf has a slight notch in it.
Take caution when removing it as every part of the plant is poisonous and can cause a blistery rash on your skin.
βοΈHow to remove poison ivy plants from your property, the safest and most effective manual method is:
*Protect Yourself First
Wear:
Long sleeves and pants
Waterproof gloves (vinyl or nitrile under work gloves is ideal)
Closed-toe shoes or boots
Eye protection if cutting or pulling vines
β οΈ Poison ivy contains urushiol oil, which can cause a rash even from dead plants, contaminated tools, clothing, or pet fur.
*Manual Removal
For small infestations:
Water the soil lightly.
Pull plants out by the roots.
Place plants in heavy-duty garbage bags.
Dispose of them according to local regulations.
πΏ Wash hands with gloves still on with dish soap before removing then pull them off inside out and dispose of them
Avoid breaking roots and leaving pieces behind, as the plant may regrow.
