Want chickens but you don't have space? Live in city? An apartment?
Have you considered quail?
$✌️/chick. Pickup in Woodstock or can potential meet Hamilton or Brantford.
Im also in Clinton/Goderich every week so could meet along the way.. Stratford/Mitchell etc.
Quail can start to lay eggs as early as 6 weeks! Eggs are smaller than chicken eggs but just as tasty. Quail can be kept in hutches indoors or on balconies.
It's not *all* sunshine and roses, quail p**p - a lot. They require clean enclosures and good ventilation. NOT a fishtank. I made that mistake last year and have learned my lesson.
If you keep quail inside (like any indoor birds!) You need to be aware of them. No candles, air fresheners, oven cleaners or non stick/teflon pans. Avoid your ovens self cleaning cycle. Their respiratory systems are so sensitive that these things can and will kill them.
The amount of people who have lost birds just from accidental burning of their food in a frying pan is not a small one - it happens every year in the chicken groups with people brooding their chicks inside.
I hatched 140ish of these adorable little ones and am definitely NOT keeping them all!!
(But I am keeping the white one, so don't even ask, haha)
