Ps, 85:8-13
Text, Luke. 1:5-17
Theme: WHEN GOD STEPS IN.
Prayer: King of glory we thank you for another week. We thank you for yesterday that is gone. We thank you for today. Today has come with new blessings and renewed hope.
Prepare our hearts for the return of Jesus Christ. May he find us ready and prepared to meet him. Purge our hearts from sin and all unrighteous activities. Bless us as we begin this week in Jesus name. AMEN
Beloved in the Lord, let us with a gladsome mind praise the Lord for he is good. His love for us endures for ever.
Have you ever prayed for something over and over, year in and year out and you didn't get any answer?
This is the kind of situation that Zecharias and his wife Elizabeth found themselves. They had been praying and praying for a baby but it was not forth coming. To make matters worse, they were advanced in age.
Age does not matter to God. If God wants to intervene into your situation, he does not take the surrounding circumstances into consideration. As a faithful God, he intervenes.
While in the temple serving, Zecharias had a vision. An angel of the Lord brought good news to him.
"Donot be afraid", the Lord has heard your prayer and your wife will bear a son and you will name him John.
John the Baptist was going to come as a forerunner to prepare the way for the coming of Jesus. John the Baptist was to come and prepare the minds of people for the coming saviour of the world. He was coming to preach repentance from all forms of evil so that when the Saviour comes, he will find his people ready.
Are we heeding to the call of John the Baptist?
We must be prepared to receive God's sovereign grace to the world. We must be prepared to receive God's love to the world. We must be prepared to receive God's blessing to the world.
God keep us and grant us the desires of our hearts during this great season of Advent. AMEN
