Why Wil-Mart?
Wil-Mart started in Playa Grande, Costa Rica, in a small minisuper in Palm Beach Estates. It was a tiny store with big ambitions. Wilbert Arroyo, after growing up and operating various businesses in Miami, FL returned to his home in Nandayure, Guanacaste in 2006. He fell in love with a local girl, Karina Chavez. After running a nightclub in Nadayure for a few years they moved to Playa Grande to start the new business.
Many of the guests in PBE came from Europe, the U.S., and Canada. So it was natural to offer them products from back home in addition to the fine products from here in Costa Rica. The store got crowded with so many products that it became time to build a real supermercado. It is located between Matapalo and Playa Grande, central. You can stop by the the new store and get the same great service as the original store. Or maybe come by for the famous Friday Night Street Party.
If you want to save half a day of your precious vacation time, you can shop online and have your whiskey, beer, groceries and more delivered to you in the surrounding areas. Or, order the Beach Party Kit, complete with pop, beer, ice and food in a reusable cooler right to you on the beach! How convenient is that?
