Dirt to power initiative Dirt to Power Initiative works to promote food security among the rural and urban communities throug DPI believes food insecurity is a global menace.

Every year the prices of staple food scale high while the income of poor household diminishes due to the high unemployment rate. This makes it impossible for individuals to access good quality food thus, the increase in poverty, malnutrition, hunger and starvation among the developing countries. The MDGs report in 2015 shows 800 million people still live in extreme poverty and suffer from hunger.

160 million children under age five are inadequate height due to insufficient food. We work to tackle the following problem
Food insecurity. Hunger and malnutrition among children
Low involvement of youths in agriculture
Limited production space in urban cities
Over dependency on food from the supermarket. DPI employs the integration of urban parks and agricultural production systems (Peri-urban agriculture) using locally available waste materials for production. Our modular park serves as a center for education, relaxation, recreation and connection. DPI works with local communities around EARTH University campus, Guacimo Limon. We offer workshop to schools, families, and tourist around our park.

Insect pests are among the many causes of excessive yield loss and economic damage in agriculture. In general terms, they can cause foliage/fruit loss and spread diseases.
As a result, desperate agriculture practitioners end up resorting to strong chemical pesticides that end up eliminating the beneficial insects like the pollinating bee as well.
Take home message: insect pests do not have an independent environment from beneficial ones, they exist in harmony. For control of insect pests, scouting and use of an integrated pest management program is encouraged. With scouting, one is able to apply a specific method of control that does not affect the whole population of insects. Resort to environment friendly control methods and save beneficial insects like bees.

Las plagas (insectos) se encuentran entre muchas causas de pérdida excesiva de rendimiento y daño económico en agricultura. En términos generales, pueden causar pérdida de follaje / fruto y propagación de enfermedades. Como resultado, los desesperados practicantes de la agricultura terminan recurriendo a pesticidas químicos fuertes que también eliminan los insectos beneficiosos como la abeja polinizadora.
Mensaje para llevar a casa: las plagas (insectos) no tienen un ambiente independiente de los beneficiosos, existen en armonía. Para el control de ellos, se recomienda la exploración (scouting) y el uso de un programa integrado de manejo de plagas. Con la exploración, uno puede aplicar un método específico de control que no afecta a toda la población de insectos. Recurra a métodos de control amigables con el medio ambiente y proteja insectos beneficiosos como las abejas.

Isn't it amazing, how you can reuse metal bars, plastic bottles and aluminium wire to make something like this?
A pyramid where you can grow your favourites crops whilst maximising your limited piece of land. To me, this is awesome.
Oh, by the way, you end up PROTECTING mother NATURE by REUSING such materials.
REUSE, REDUCE, RECYCLE.
