DISCOVER SCHÖNEBERG

Schöneberg, centrally located in former West, is Berlin’s most colorful and multicultural district. Many film stars, authors, poets, and scientists have felt at home here – David Bowie and Iggy Pop, Albert Einstein, Hans Fallada, Klaus Kinski, Hildegard Knef, Else Lasker-Schüler, Rudolf Steiner, and Billy Wilder– to name a few. When John F. Kennedy visited Berlin in 1961, he made his famous “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech at the Schöneberg Town Hall. Since the 1920s, Berliners have come to Schöneberg to dance and party, especially with Berlin’s gay and lesbian district located around Nollendorfplatz. To this day, innumerable restaurants, bars, cafés and clubs keep this tradition alive. THE WINTERFELDTMARKET

The Winterfeldtmarket in Schöneberg, located at the Winterfeldtplaza next to the St. Matthias Church is one of the best farmer's markets you can find in Berlin. One can find produce of fresh, local organic and/or regional vegetables, fruits, fish and meats. On Saturdays with around 200 stalls present, you may discover rare ingredients like wild herbs, edible flowers, foraged mushrooms, wild game, as well as handcrafted condiments, household goods and wonderful freshly-made Turkish delicacies. Act V — The Grand Finale.

To close the evening, colorful baskets filled with carefully selected surprises were passed around the table, inviting everyone to unwrap and discover them together. Inside were treats from Winterfeldt Schokoladen, Jones Ice Cream and Rolfs Honig, celebrating the incredible local makers who helped bring Taste the District to life.

The excitement quickly spread beyond the table, as curious passersby gathered to join the final moments and even enjoyed a few sweet surprises themselves.

A joyful ending to an evening built around sharing, community and the flavors of Schöneberg.

Taste The District – Event Recap

Fourteen days ago, on the evening of June 21, 2026, the longest day of the year, Winterfeldtplatz in Berlin Schöneberg was transformed into one spectacular communal dining table. Around 100 guests came together to experience a unique five course culinary journey celebrating the district’s rich cultural diversity, local businesses, and vibrant food scene.

More than just a dinner, Taste The District was a community experience that brought strangers together, encouraged conversation, and showcased the stories, flavours, and people that define one of Berlin’s most beloved neighbourhoods.

The project was conceived and produced by Kit Schulte of The Food Culture Project and funded by the Economic Development Office of the District of Tempelhof Schöneberg through the City Tax programme, with support from the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises and VisitBerlin. All participating restaurants, bakeries, market producers, and delicatessen shops generously contributed their products as in kind donations.

The evening was officially opened by District Mayor Jörn Oltmann, whose presence highlighted the event’s importance as a flagship initiative for community building and local tourism. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the vital role of the neighbourhood’s gastronomy and the iconic Winterfeldt Market as the beating heart of the Schöneberg community.

„We make sourdough bread using organic and local grains, milled specifically to unlock their full flavor. To achieve this, we combine strict technical precision with human intuition. Our purpose is to elevate how we value food by deepening our emotional connection to what we eat and bringing people together around one shared table.“
