Today, all I want is a plate of Amala and ewedu… or tuwo with miyan kuka.

Back home, it’s easy. You make a call, place an order, and before long, your food arrives.

But where I live, there isn’t even a West African restaurant I can order from.

Sometimes culture shock isn’t the language, the weather, or the paperwork.

Sometimes it’s being sick, craving the food that comforts you most, and realizing it’s simply not available.

What’s one food from your culture that you miss when you’re away from home?

Imagine sending your child to school…

And not knowing if they will ever come home.

That is the reality some Nigerian families are living today.

A nation cannot truly prosper while its children live in fear and families spend sleepless nights praying for their safe return.

These children are not statistics.

They are sons.
They are daughters.
They are dreams waiting to be fulfilled.

As we pray for their safe return, I cannot help but ask:

Where are the voices powerful enough to shake the conscience of a nation?

Religious leaders.
Traditional rulers.
Community leaders.
Public figures.

History has shown that when influential voices unite behind a cause, people listen and leaders pay attention.

This is not the time for silence.

It is the time for every voice that can make a difference to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Bring them home.

Safe.
Alive.
Now.

💔🇳🇬

How do we ensure that the world does not forget these children until they are safely reunited with their families?

Last week, for the first time since moving to Germany, I found myself seriously sick and completely alone.

Not the kind of sickness where you drink tea and sleep it off.

The kind where getting out of bed feels like a task, every step hurts, and yet you still have to take care of yourself because there is nobody else to do it.

I had to put on my winter jacket while shivering with fever and rush to the hospital before they closed. Then came the bus rides, the pharmacy, the grocery shopping and trying to survive on my own.

Back home in Nigeria, sickness rarely feels this lonely. There is usually someone checking on you, bringing food, or simply sitting beside you.

Living abroad teaches you many things. Last week, it taught me resilience.

But it also taught me something unexpected.

For the first time, I understood why so many people love their pets so deeply.

Sometimes companionship is not about solving problems. Sometimes it is simply about having a loyal presence beside you when life feels heavy.

That thought immediately brought Sushi to mind.

I missed his birthday because I was sick, but better late than never.

Happy Birthday, Sushi. 🐾

Thank you for reminding me that loyalty, comfort, and unconditional love can come in four-legged form.

To everyone building a life far from home, I see you. Some days are harder than others, but somehow we keep going.

Alhamdulillah, I am feeling much better now.

I bought this Saree years ago

And like many of us do with beautiful things, I kept saving it for the “right” moment.

A wedding.
A celebration.
An invitation.
A special occasion.

I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

The invitation never came.

Then today, I asked myself:

How many beautiful things in life are we postponing while waiting for the perfect moment?

So I stopped waiting.

With a little help from AI, I finally figured out how to style and wear the Saree that had been quietly waiting in my wardrobe for years. (The photo inset is the actual Saree hanging in my home.)

I wore it.

Not because there was somewhere to go.
Not because there was anyone to impress.
Not because my calendar finally gave me permission.

I wore it because life itself is an occasion.

Because gratitude is an occasion.

Because joy is an occasion.

Because sometimes the most beautiful memories are the ones we create for ourselves.

So here I am, finally wearing the Saree that patiently waited years for its turn. 🤍✨

No wedding.
No ceremony.
No invitation.

Just a woman, a Saree, and a reminder that today is already special enough.

Stop saving your joy for someday.

Someday is today. ✨🤍

One thing living abroad taught me? Africans and Europeans see food VERY differently 😭😂

Yesterday was my first time experiencing Eid ram processing abroad and honestly… the cultural difference shocked me a little. We spent over six hours at the slaughterhouse waiting in queues. In Germany, they even call you to come see your ram and say a prayer before the slaughtering starts. Everything is very organized, but also very stressful.

We finally got home around midnight, and I still had to wash, slice, portion, and freeze the meat before sleeping.

But what amazed me the most was the intestines and inner parts. Here, many people actually leave them behind because they don’t eat them. Meanwhile, if you’re African, especially Nigerian, you already know those parts are premium! I happily carried mine home, washed and twisted it properly like treasure.

Living abroad will really show you how differently people see food and culture.

You think it’s just ‘buy ram’? No… it’s logistics, coordination, waiting, driving and patience 😂
