Our Story

How it all Started: The story of get-grocery.com began in the winters of 2009. Raman Gupta, who came to Germany as a student and was working in SAP at that time, was craving for Indian Food. There were very less options in the market, especially for vegetarians. He wanted to cook Indian food at home but many ingredients that he needed were not available. He had no car and there was only one Indian shop in the city. That shop had very little variety and he could not get what he wanted. He searched for other shops but he had no success. He realized that there were only a few shops around and they all offered only standard items. Moreover, the things purchased had to be lugged home and the biting cold made this even worse. This resulted in frustration and ignited a sense of need to end this stone age environment for Indians in Germany. AND the idea of Get Grocery was born!

A large number of Indians either students or employed here were facing similar problems. A traditional shop big or small could not solve this because Indian cuisine is vast and diverse. Every region has its own authentic cuisine. To provide the widely dispersed Indian population in Germany and other parts of Europe with a variety of Indian food and fresh ingredients at their doorsteps, Raman took a small but courageous step of launching ‪get-grocery.com‬ which turned into giant leap for the Indians and other Asians in Europe. He started in single apartment and involved a few friends to join him as a team. With dedication and hard work of the awesome team of Get Grocery, the company became a favorite for many and fast gained a reputation across Europe and as a result was able to provide a wide variety of food products across Europe. Today get-grocery.com is the biggest online Indian grocery store in Europe. The journey of 10 years was not an easy one for Raman. It was full of hard work and sleepless nights, but the satisfaction of providing a valuable service for those away from home was worth the effort. In 2019, Nishant (brother of Raman who is a serial entrepreneur himself) took over the reins as CEO with a determination to carry the work and take Get Grocery to a new level. The philosophy behind the organization has always been to “bring India closer to Expats".

Life abroad is hard and unavailability of home food, takes this hardship to a whole new level. Nostalgia and home sickness creeps in gradually.
