With a very heavy heart, we say goodbye to 2025 and to this chapter.

Mia's Asian Shop has closed her doors.

To our customers, regulars, friends, and supporters: a heartfelt thank you for filling our shop with life. For patronising and shopping with us the past 25 years. Your support meant more than you know, and it will stay with us always. We were also very touched to those who came by the last few days/weeks to say hello & goodbye. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross in future.

We are also deeply grateful to our suppliers and contractors for their patience & understanding throughout the years.

Happy 2026 everyone!
May the New Year bring you happiness, good health, love and prosperity.

Dear Customers,

Almost 26 years ago, a friend of mine, Eshah, asked me, if I wanted to take over her little Asian shop. Me, who has never owned a business, let alone a little Asian grocery store.
After some consideration, I have decided to take up the challenge. Believe me when I say that I had no knowledge, no experience, no clue. And the learning curve was steep: within a few months, I learned how to run a small business. It was a lot, especially working six days a week and cooking almost every day. And despite the challenges, I have to say that the last 25 years have been the most rewarding in my life. I have learned, laughed, grown, cried, made friends, gained knowledge, and built a little community around the shop. I have seen pregnant women coming in with their babies, who are now fully grown adults! I have seen customers who moved to another country or continent and who would come by and say "hi" when they were visiting again.
Of course, things were not always easy, especially when it came to German bureaucracy.
To put it short: the authorities need to make things easier for small business owners like me.
The shop combined my passions: being surrounded by people, you dear customers, who share the love of food, connecting with you, and constantly learning something new. The world is vast! I loved helping out customers who came back from an exotic holiday, came to my shop with bright eyes, describing what they ate and how they wanted to recreate it at home. They often said: "Being in your shop feels like being on vacation."
With the help of my sister Kiah/Mimi/Fatimah, and my niece Nura, without whom I could have not managed it all.
A big thanks to them, and of course a big THANK YOU to you, my dear customers. I wish you health and prosperity.
