The Issue
A critical systemic failure exists in the transition from tertiary education to the workforce in Fiji. Despite completing their qualifications, many graduates are returning to their villages unemployed. This is primarily due to a lack of industrial attachment opportunities, which are essential to meet the "prior experience" demands of employers.
Core Failures
* Institutional Neglect: Universities currently bear no responsibility for placing students in relevant fields to complete required working hours.
* Policy Void: There is no government mandate requiring educational institutions to facilitate industry placements.
* The Experience Gap: Employers continue to bypass fresh graduates in favor of experienced workers, creating an entry barrier that educated youth cannot overcome alone.
Required Action
* Mandatory Placement Policies: The government must implement policies holding universities accountable for securing student attachments.
* Field-Specific Alignment: Students must be placed in environments directly related to their studies to ensure their education is not wasted.
* Industry Incentives: Create a framework where local employers are encouraged to accept trainees, reducing the number of qualified youth sidelined in rural areas.
Conclusion
Education without a pathway to practice is a wasted investment. Without immediate intervention, Fiji will continue to see its most educated citizens remain underutilized in villages due to a lack of professional entry points.

Over the years, Fijian traditional clothing has changed a lot. Our ancestors proudly wore the **iTaukei sulu, masi, liku, and traditional adornments** that represented respect, identity, and connection to our land and vanua. Today, modern fashion, social media, and foreign trends have influenced how we dress, especially among the younger generation.

While change is part of growth, we must ask ourselves — are we slowly losing the meaning behind our traditional attire? Our clothing was never just fashion; it symbolized humility, modesty, unity, and cultural pride. The way we dress often reflects our values and behavior within the community.

In places like Fiji, culture is our foundation. If we forget the importance of our traditional style, we risk weakening the respect and discipline that once strongly defined our society.

Modern style is not wrong — but balance is important. Let us embrace development while still honoring who we are. Our culture is our identity, and it should never fade with trends.

🇫🇯 THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE 4 to 5:00 AM GENERATION 🇫🇯
While the rest of the world is still dreaming, Fiji’s future is already at the bus stop.
It’s 4:30 AM. The stars are still out, the air is cold, and across Viti Levu, thousands of our children are rubbing sleep from their eyes. They aren’t waking up early because they want to—they’re doing it because the Suva-Nausori corridor and the Nadi backroad wait for no one. 🚗💨
By the time the sun hits the horizon, these kids have already spent two hours in a "moving classroom" (otherwise known as a crowded bus or a stalled carrier).
* 4:00 AM: Alarm goes off.
* 5:30 AM: On the road to beat the "gridlock."
* 8:00 AM: Finally at the school gates, already exhausted before the first bell even rings.
We talk about academic excellence, but we don't talk enough about the cost.
By lunchtime, that early morning start begins to hit. By 3:30 PM, when it’s time for Rugby or Netball training, these students are running on fumes. 🏃‍♂️🏐
They are battling:
* Physical Exhaustion: Heavy bags and long commutes lead to "Sports Fatigue" before the game even starts.
* Mental Burnout: It’s hard to focus on Math when your brain has been awake for 10 hours and stuck in traffic for 4 of them.
* The Sacrifice: They lose out on sleep, family time, and just being kids because our roads are choked.
To our Students: We see you. We see your resilience. To the boy doing his homework under the bus light and the girl yawning through training but still giving it 100%—you are the toughest generation yet. 💪
To the Community: Is it time we rethink our school zones? Flexible hours? Or just better infrastructure? Our children shouldn't have to live like corporate commuters before they’ve even hit puberty.
Drop a "💯" if you’re a 4:00 AM to 5, parent or student! Let’s show everyone how hard our kids work. .
