Our Story

K-8th Grade Mission Statement Our mission at P.S. 161 is to foster in all of our students the skills that assist them to become independent thinkers, problem-solvers and lifelong learners. We provide an environment where children are an integral part of a community and hold themselves and each other to the highest standards of performance. The interdependent atmosphere permits each child, parent, and staff member to feel safe, recognized, and respected. Middle School Mission Statement The I.S. 161 mission is to provide an environment of academic rigor, establish a community of practices with a goal of differentiation, and offer empowering enrichment, with civic and social awareness and activism. We are an academy that creates opportunities for our students to seek admissions in the best city high schools, and instill a foundation for college and life successes.
