A new Gutful stockist – and this one is rather special 🌱

I dropped off a selection of Gutful Foods at The Seed Box Ltd — and managed to sell one while I was still showing the team the products! 😂

The Seed Box is a charity and social enterprise providing horticultural training, outdoor therapy and meaningful, work-related activities for adults and young people with additional support needs.

Their co-workers get involved in everything from growing fruit and vegetables and caring for plants to propagation, crafts, woodwork and nature activities — building confidence, independence and practical life skills along the way.

And as a social enterprise, the profits are used for the benefit of the people they support. 💚

The grounds are absolutely beautiful too and well worth a visit.

You’ll now find Baker’s Seed Blend, Berry Spoon, Crunch Boost, Cacao Hearth and Roll & Go Bites in their shop.

Really pleased to see Gutful on the shelves somewhere doing such worthwhile work. 🌱

🌱 SEED FACT SUNDAY — FENNEL

Here’s one I didn’t know…

Fennel seeds aren’t actually seeds. 👀

Those little green-brown “seeds” we use in cooking are technically the dried fruits of the fennel plant, with the true seed tucked inside.

And fennel has some interesting relatives too — it belongs to the same plant family as carrots, parsley, celery and coriander.

Its distinctive sweet, almost liquorice-like flavour comes largely from an aromatic compound called anethole.

🌿 Fennel has been used in food for thousands of years, and in India it’s traditionally enjoyed after a meal, often as part of mukhwas.

I use fennel in my Baker’s Seed Blend, where that little hint of sweetness works beautifully alongside the nuttier, toasted seeds.

Tiny ingredient. Quite a lot going on. 🌱

This is exactly the kind of place I hoped Gutful would find its way into 💚

Buchanan Bistro at Woodend of Crathes is the latest place to stock Gutful, and I’m really pleased about this one.

It’s a beautiful independent bistro with a real focus on good food, seasonal ingredients and local producers — they even grow some of their own produce in the garden.

You’ll now find Everyday, Crunch Boost and Berry Spoon on their shelves 🌱

I still get such a buzz seeing Gutful sitting on a shelf somewhere new, especially somewhere that feels like such a good fit.

If you’re around Banchory/Crathes, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Just sent my first ever Gutful email 💌

Another little milestone for Gutful and another thing I never imagined I’d be doing a few months ago.

I’m going to use these emails to share a bit more of what goes on behind the scenes — new products, collaborations, ideas, things I’m learning and probably a few things that don’t go quite to plan too 😂

If you’d like to get the next one, you can sign up through the Gutful website www.gutfulfoods.com 🌱

A little Elgin find 💗

Popped into Nanny Pink's today and obviously couldn’t wait until I got home before breaking into these 😂

Everything is gluten-free, dairy-free and lactose-free, with cakes, cookies, lunches, and plenty more.

I came away with this ridiculously soft old school cake and a couple of cookies that may or may not survive the rest of the journey home…

Such a brilliant wee place tucked away in Elgin — definitely worth knowing about, especially if you struggle to find gluten-free treats locally. 💗

Well, I did it! 😅

I was SO nervous about today — standing up and talking about Gutful Foods, gut health and why I started all of this is definitely outside my comfort zone. But I’m so glad I did it.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, listened, asked questions and tasted everything, and to Becky The Studio - Insch for hosting.

We had Onnagh’s gorgeous quinoa salad topped with Gutful Crunch Boost, and Sarah’s Kingston Gelato banana and chocolate gelato with my Brownie Crunch — both absolutely delicious.

Onnagh is also running her Vegan Night at Square Deal in Huntly on 28th October, so go along, support her and taste some delicious vegan food 🌱

And a little extra special part of today was collecting my beautiful bowl from Fifi’s Pottery, which I had made with Bennachie on it as a reminder of where I used to live. I absolutely love it 🤍

I went in full of nerves and came home very glad I’d pushed myself to do it.

Thank you to everyone who made today what it was ❤️

🌱 SEED FACT SUNDAY — CORIANDER

That little round coriander “seed” isn’t actually a seed at all… it’s technically a fruit containing two seeds.

And coriander has a rather strange connection to… bedbugs. 😳

The name has traditionally been linked to the Ancient Greek koris, meaning bedbug, because the smell of the young plant was thought to resemble them.

Even stranger, there’s some chemistry behind the comparison: fresh coriander and bedbugs both produce certain aldehyde compounds associated with their distinctive smells.

But as coriander fruits mature and dry, their aroma changes dramatically. The dried coriander we use has a much warmer, citrusy aroma, with linalool becoming one of its major aromatic compounds.

🌱 And nutritionally?
Coriander contains fibre and a range of naturally occurring plant compounds with antioxidant activity. It has also been studied for possible effects on digestion, blood sugar and cholesterol, although the evidence in humans is still developing.

From bedbug-smelling plant to one of our favourite spices… not bad for something that isn’t technically even a seed. 😂
