“MY DAUGHTER WAS BORN WITH SICKLE CELL BECAUSE OF RELIGION” But Was It Really Religion?
It is heartbreaking to hear a parent say that his daughter was born with sickle cell disease because of a “foolish mistake” he made due to religion. But perhaps the bigger lesson here is not that religion failed him it is that knowledge and wisdom were missing from the decision.
If both partners already knew they were AS, then the issue was not faith. The issue was making a major reproductive decision without fully understanding the genetic consequences.

The Bible itself warns us about the danger of ignorance:
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” HOSEA 4:6
It also says:
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” — Proverbs 4:7
And:
“The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.” Proverbs 14:15
Faith and wisdom are not enemies. In fact, genuine faith should encourage us to seek knowledge, understand consequences and make responsible decisions.
Believing in God does not mean deliberately ignoring medical or scientific knowledge. Prayer is important, but so are genotype testing, genetic counselling and informed decision-making.

So, instead of saying, “My daughter has sickle cell because of religion,” perhaps the more accurate lesson is:
“I made a decision without having enough knowledge and understanding of the consequences.”
May we never use faith as an excuse to reject wisdom. God gave us the ability to pray, but He also gave us the ability to learn, reason and seek counsel.

Faith without wisdom can lead to avoidable mistakes.
Get knowledge. Get understanding. Get wisdom. Then make informed decisions.

Thank You for waking me up to see this new day.
Today I’m asking You for a miracle.
The kind that only You can do.
Lord, step into every situation that looks impossible.
Open doors that have been shut.
Heal what is broken.
Restore what I’ve lost.
Make a way where there seems to be no way.
I refuse to be tired. I refuse to give up.
Because I know with You, nothing is too hard.
Let Your favor surround me today.
Let testimonies locate me.
Let Your peace rule my heart while I wait.
