With all the recent talk about the quality of eggs in supermarkets, we thought we should mention the wonderful eggs we supply.

They are high quality really fresh eggs that are truly free range.
Our eggs and are produced to the highest standard of care for both the hens and the land the hens forage on.

Soil Association Certified Organic. The Soil Association demands the highest welfare standards for egg production.

This level of organic certification ensures the hens are free to roam on organic pasture with a low stocking density and access the shelter when they want it. They are out in the fresh air wandering around and searching for insects and fresh grasses to eat and any supplementary feed is certified organic with no genetically modified grain and absolutely no glyphosate included.
aThis level of certification also ensures the pastures the hens roam on has not been treated with pesticides and chemical fertilizers (and no Round-Up!).

We choose to buy our eggs from small family farms located in the North West of England.

"Enliven" Your Meals
Live fermented foods are now discussed in mainstream magazines and are all over social media. They are not just the preserve of the traditional food enthusiasts from The Weston A Price Foundation.

When we began offering really live, fermented foods in our Cheshire shop way back in 2005, we could not find a UK producer and we imported a range from the USA. Wow - hard to believe as, 20 years later, there are now fermenters busily producing various vegetable concoctions all over the UK!

Ever on the lookout for interesting live foods, we discovered a super-exciting range from Wild & Cultured that sits in a niche that is not occupied by many producers at all - live and really tasty sauces. Sauces to add zest, not forgetting live probiotics to your plate.

These are bottles packed with concentrated flavour and goodness and of course offer another way to incorporate gut-friendly organisms into your daily diet.

Maybe some of those people who would love to be eating live foods, but just don't get on with sauerkraut and kimchi should give them a try. My favourite of the moment is the Lemon Harissa and so far in the shop it is the Ploughman's Pickle that is selling the fastest, closely followed by the Brown Sauce.

They are, of course, more expensive than a commercial sauce - but that is because of the care and the quality of these condiments. They are so tasty, a little goes a long way.

It sometimes blows my mind when I think about how long we have been in business as The Real Food Company. We opened our doors for the first time in the summer of 1990!
From that very first day we have supplied organic oats from Mornflake, just down the road in Crewe. People love them as they taste so good! I was reminded of what a wonderful a company they are the other day when I was following one of their delivery lorries - written on the side it said they have been milling oats in Cheshire since 1675. That is quite something, and they are still a family run business. That is over 350 years!

You may have noticed more interest in an odd and ancient traditional fermented food from Japan - natto. Joe Rogan was even discussing its benefits on a recent podcast.
What is it about natto that has caught peoples' attention?
Recently published research (especially 2025–2026) supports natto as a functional food with multi-system benefits, particularly for:

*bones,
*heart health,
*gut micro-biome

Cardiovascular Health.
Nattokinase, a key natto enzyme, is being shown in ongoing research to help break down blood clots and may also reduce blood pressure and improves lipid profiles.

Regular natto intake is associated with higher vitamin K2 (MK-7) levels and improved bone metabolism markers
Why it matters:
MK-7 helps activate proteins involved in bone mineralisation
and may support osteoporosis prevention, especially in older adults

We have a regular supply of UK made, fresh natto. Only organic soya beans are used to make this artisan food.
We sell this from our fridge in our Alsager shop and also on our web shop here: https://therealfoodcompany.org.uk/collections/tempeh/products/live-natto-150g

Animal fats like these are all are able to withstand the high temperatures needed to make them glorious and crispy - without becoming damaged and problematic to your body.
