Edwin Tucker and Sons

Edwin Tucker and Sons Edwin Tucker and Sons It was in 1862 that Edwin Tucker, a keen farmer, purchased the Seed, Malting and Agricultural business of Mr.

William Rolestone Whiteway of Ashburton, who hade been trading since 1831. He was keen to be involved in the seed business as he felt there was considerable room for improvement within the trade, his legacy for supplying quality seeds to West Country farmers still remains the company’s philosophy to this day. Even though history shows there were many Malthouses in Devon at the time (many pubs had

there own attached) the Maltings side of the business also fitted in well with Edwin Tucker’s vision as he was able to reciprocal trade with his farmer customers by buying back their barley. Edwin Tucker was later joined by his three sons and together they continued to expand all sides of the business. In 1876 they moved from their rented site in East Street to a new purpose built maltings in Station Yard, Ashburton. We now have two Country Stores, one here in the heart of Ashburton and another in Crediton, Mid Devon, both are open Monday-Saturday to trade and public.
