It's back. First harvest honey from Low Craighead Farm is now available.

In 2021 the Phillips family planted a wildflower meadow at Low Craighead Farm with one clear goal, to help feed the abundant bee population. The meadow is filled with a rich variety of nectar producing plants, including Comfrey, Clover, Sorrel, Oxeye Daisy, Knapweed, Yarrow and Yellow Rattle. Alongside this you will find Elderflower, Damson, Sloe and Gorse as well as a tree plantation with Lime trees for later in the season. Harvesting began in 2023, and from this first harvest won first place at the Belleisle Bee & Honey Event.

The honey is raw and runny with a delicate floral fragrance and the occasional hint of elderflower. It is velvety smooth, having been triple filtered with the colour varying throughout the season from golden yellow to rich amber.

You're in for a treat, available now at mcgregor + reid.

And to pair with Montagnolo Affiné...

🥃 Laphroaig 10 Year Old Sherry Oak Finish Single Malt 🥃

It’s true that blue cheese is an acquired taste, but those who enjoy it enough will reap all the benefits of this pairing made in heaven.

That’s where peated whiskies, especially from Islay, step in, with layers of smoke and, in this instance, a sherry influence.

This classic Islay Dram aged in ex-Bourbon barrels and European Oloroso sherry oak casks is a perfect match for Montagnolo triple cream blue cheese. We really enjoyed the creamy subtle blue tang of the Montagnolo with the balanced flavour of this Laphroaig.

🍷 Saumur Champigny Lieu-Dit Les Villaises Cave de Saumur 🍷

100% Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley, France. It is a deep ruby red in colour with aromas of crisp blackcurrant and raspberries, with fruit compote and delicate balsamic flavours. Grapes used in the production of this tiny lieu-dit (named vineyard) are grown on the site of a Roman villa called "Salmonciacus" dating back to the 3rd century BC!

Introducing 🧀 Montagnolo Affiné 🧀 our Cheese of the Month for May.

Montagnolo is a premium, triple cream blue cheese produced in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, Germany. An area where dairy farming has tradition dating back over 300 years.

Montagnolo reflects the region's long standing expertise in cheese production by exemplifying the fusion of traditional Bavarian dairy craftsmanship with modern cheese making techniques. The resulting cheese has a natural grey edible exterior contrasting a pale ivory internal paste, mottled by fine blue/green veining. This is accompanied by flavours of cream and butter with a delicate blue tang that never overwhelms.

Made from pasteurised milk, Montagnolo is a highly accessible cheese. It is gluten free, suitable for vegetarians and classed as lactose free due to the maturation process, as it ripens slowly at low temperatures.

A perfect pairing with fresh crusty bread, my personal favourite. Equally delicious on your cheeseboard with black grapes and walnuts, or crisps, crackers and a soft, sweet fruit chutney of your choice.

Introducing 🧀 Wijngaard Goats Gouda 🧀 our Cheese of the Month for April!

Wijngaard Goats Gouda is an artisanal cheese produced by the Van den Wijngaard family, who have been maturing cheeses in Woerden, Netherlands since 1936. Their Gouda is matured for a minimum of 4 months in specialised caves modelled after the historic Reypenaer cheese cellars, resulting in a unique, complex, yet balanced character due to natural fluctuations in temperature and humidity. The texture is smooth, creamy and velvety, melting easily on the palate. The flavour profile is subtle yet sweet, with caramel notes to finish.

Wijngaard Goats Gouda elevates any occasion with its exquisite taste and exceptional craftsmanship. As sweetness is a natural bridge for this cheese, we recommend candied ginger, fig jam and apricot preserves; or honey with pear and apple slices on rosemary or rye crackers.

Following such a glorious weekend, we’re in the mood for some Springtime pairings from and .

🍷 Quincy Une Promesse, Domaine de L’Epine 🍷

Say hello to Quincy!

From the eastern Loire Valley, Quincy is one of the region’s original appellations and is made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc. It’s everything we love about the grape; bright citrus, a hint of gooseberry, delicate floral notes and a crisp, mouth-watering finish that keeps things feeling fresh and elegant.

🥃 Glenfarclas 12-Year-Old Single Malt 🥃

This award-winning single malt is a true star of the whisky world. It has been in the hands of the Grant family since 1865, having opened in 1836 — a very impressive heritage!

This whisky is aged primarily in Oloroso sherry casks, adding a deep, creamy, sweet flavour which cuts through the natural tang of Fromage de Chèvre Affiné.

Nose: Fresh and beautifully light, sherried fruit combined with a tempting spicy sweetness and a hint of sappy oak.

Flavour: Full bodied, delightful sherried fruit with oak, a hint of peat and delicious sweet sensations.

Finish: Long and flavoursome, with a lingering spiciness.

Bring on Spring!

The sun is shining in Ayr, and this month’s cheese and wine pairing is sure to put a little more spring in your step 🌸🌱

Paired with Cheese of the Month - Fromage de Chèvre Affiné. As goats return to fresh pasture, their milk is at its most vibrant, giving this aged goat’s cheese its signature bloomy rind and crumbly heart. Expect bright tangy notes that mellow into hints of hazelnut, soft herbs and a gently peppery, lemony finish.

Introducing 🧀 Fromage de Chèvre Affiné 🧀 our first Cheese of the Month for 2026!

We’re excited to be welcoming Spring with a brand new Cheese of the Month after a short break to recoup and redecorate. What better way to honour the growth and renewal that the season represents than with our most popular goat’s cheese?

As goats kid in early Spring and graze on fresh pasture, the milk and therefore the cheese are at their most vibrant — the perfect season for a new addition to your cheeseboard.

‘Fromage de Chèvre’ — cheese made from goat’s milk. ‘Affiné’ — aged, matured or refined. Unlike its younger counterpart, Chèvre Frais, Chèvre Affiné undergoes a maturation process, typically between 2-12 weeks. During aging the cheese loses moisture and develops a distinctive ‘bloomy’ rind. Under this rind, the cheese softens and creates a signature gooey layer often called the ‘creamline’, with the centre remaining a firmer, more crumbly texture. The aging process also allows the natural tang of the goat’s milk to alter and intensify, forming notes of hazelnut and herbs through to a peppery or even lemony finish.

For your cheeseboard we recommend serving with honey, fruit jams or a variety of fresh fruit. Alternatively Fromage de Chèvre Affiné is delicious grilled, turning golden brown with a mousse-like texture. Serve with salad, poached fruits or fresh crusty bread.
