Next Friday is Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, and what better way to celebrate than to get outside and enjoy a guided walk along the hedgerows and feast on some foraged goodies!

Have you ever foraged for delicious wild foods before? Would you like to learn what is in season that can be foraged safely with a little care, to supplement your diet?

Come along to the shop to be guided around the local area by Lizzy who will take you on a wander to seek wild edibles that are full of surprising spring flavours!

We will be looking for wild fruits, herbs, mushrooms and plants that are all around us and teaching you key identification features/preferred habitats to give a good introduction to foraging for your own wild food journey going forwards.

There will be a chance to sample afterwards some wild food makes and bakes to demonstrate how easy it can be to incorporate your finds into everyday meals and cooking.

We will be covering good foraging practice, preservation techniques and what species to look out for in the coming months after your foraging session with Lizzy.

You may wish to bring a camera, notepaper, something to drink as we walk and ensure you have sturdy comfortable footwear/weather appropriate clothing for the wander.

Fully insured. Member of the Association of Foragers. £35 per session, under 16's free. (Max 2 children per adult)

Bookings can be made via Lizzy’s website at https://www.tellus-mater.co.uk/event-details/nothing-but-footprints-banbury-3
or by popping into the shop to reserve your space!

Exciting news incoming at Footprints! This one’s been kept under wraps until now, but last night we were busy putting in our shiny new self service checkouts.

We’ve always been looking for ways to improve our customer experience, and having asked absolutely nobody for their opinion, thought this worth a go.

“Nothing says we care about our customers quite like having a robot tell you that your card has been declined”, said one trial user who would rather not be named (Jen).

Whilst this does now mean all of our staff won’t need to bother themselves with mundane tasks like talking to people, they aren’t going anywhere, they have new roles mostly involving turning the machines off and on again when they inevitably break, and barking at anyone who puts their purse in the bagging area by mistake.

Asked about the new tills, owner Dan said, “we’ve always looked up to the corporations for their commitment to a soulless shopping experience and felt now was the time to bring that to refill shopping. The shop will look very similar to what you might have been used to, except our colleagues will be trained to be as apathetic as possible. Some of them might need some pretty strong tranquillisers, but the side effects aren’t too bad considering.”

We hope to see you soon and cannot wait to hear your feedback on our new no human contact shopping experience.

*Don’t worry, we wouldn’t actually do this to you, we quite like chatting to you! In a sea of robotic algorithm led nonsense, we prefer connection. 💚

The bunnies are getting themselves organised ready for the weekend, when we all get a well earned rest for a couple of days.

Our Banbury shop will be open Good Friday and Saturday (albeit slightly shorter hours on Friday) before closing on Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

In Bicester we will be opening as normal over the weekend, including for the first time there on Good Friday. Please note that Bicester Green will be closed, so it’s just us that day.

Our stocks of eggs are fast depleting, so you’ll need to be quick to get those, though we have loads of other chocolate so all is not lost in any case!!

I hope you all have a lovely week ahead, I’ll be praying for sunshine on our days off (which means there’ll be a storm with a name most likely so blame me for that).

It’s that time of year again, the days get longer, the daffodils are up, and voting is open for the Castle Quay awards! 🏆

Last year we were humbled by your support, not least Jem, who deservedly took the ‘Best Customer Service’ award home. Those of you who have met Jem will know how downright wonderful a human she is, and she is rightly in the running again this year.

If you have a spare minute and feel like voting for us and/or some of our neighbours in Castle Quay, well, that would be really quite marvellous of you (link is in the comments)

Otherwise though, I hope that you are enjoying a most wonderful weekend in whatever form that might take, you most excellent person you x

Just two weeks to go until we host our first Foraging Walk with Lizzy Tellus Mater

Setting off from the shop, will be heading to discover just how much edible and medicinal plants there are, right under our noses! 👃

Lizzy will guide us through safe and responsible foraging, plant and fungi identification and preferred habitats, all the do’s and don’t’s and how to use everything.

You’ll even get to channel your inner wild rabbit and try some of natures bounty!

We are really excited to have Lizzy host a series of workshops with us this year, so you’ll have every chance to discover more as the seasons change.

Tickets are available here should you wish to join us….

As promised our Christmas opening hours ⏰

As we did last year, we’ll be closing the doors a little earlier on Christmas Eve, so that we can all go home and enjoy some rest and family time.

We’ll be back though in the funny little inbetweeny bit should you get a desperate need for some of those chilli cashews, or should the washing up liquid run out.

Don’t forget we’re open late this Friday too, making it a great chance to grab any last minute stocking fillers, or snacks, as it’s usually nice and quiet then! (Plus it’s free parking after 6pm so happy days)

If you’re all done and dusted, and we won’t see you before, then we’d all like to wish you and your families a most beautiful Christmas break, and we look forward to seeing you on the other side of it all!

Thanks so much for your support you lovely folks, it means the absolute world x 🌿💚

Otherwise, the shop is open every day up until Christmas Eve, when we will be closing at 3pm. I’ll be publishing our full opening times through the festive period tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your support you right lovely folks you. x

What a fabulous weekend that was! 💚

I just wanted to hop on to say a huge thank you to Banbury BID and Banbury Town Council for organising the Winter Market and Christmas Light Switch On events respectively.

In particular I’d like to give a special mention to Ollie at the BID, who I’m reliably informed by the rest of the BID team, did all the heavy lifting with organising the market. To organise an event that big, and it run so smoothly is no mean feat, even for someone with years of experience in events. But to do it as a 21 year old lad, having never taken on something that big before, and whilst working part time elsewhere in town, that’s quite something!

The weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, thankfully it was much better than initially forecast. Sunday was such a glorious sunny day, we couldn’t have asked for better, and it was so lovely to see so many people in town.

I think it’s ok to start getting into the spirit of the season now that the advent calendars are being opened!? (speaking of which we’ve got half a dozen left including a couple of advent calendars for the doggos (because they deserve to join in too surely?!))

See you all soon you wonderful folks you 🌿x

We’re very excited to be going back to our roots this weekend and joining the Banbury Winter Market. The markets team have been busy getting everything set up for a 10am start tomorrow morning.

It feels crazy that we did our last market over 6 years ago, so it’ll bring back a lot of memories going back outside!

A huge amount of work has gone in to make this happen from the team at Banbury BID. Expect brass, drums, stilt walkers, roasting chestnuts, mulled spices, hot toddy’s, gifts, and who knows, you might even spot a stray elf wandering about?

On Sunday we will also have the Christmas light switch on including live music, and even more stalls and entertainment courtesy of Banbury Town Council.

We’ll be open inside and out tomorrow until 7pm, so do come and say hello. Bring some sunshine if you wouldn’t mind? Ta.

Have the very bestest weekend x
