What a lovely way to start the day.

Homemade sourdough topped with smoked salmon, our own goat’s curd and two poached eggs. The goat’s curd is made here on the farm using milk from our own herd and adds a fresh, creamy contrast to the salmon.

A quick note that the café will close at 12.30pm on Wednesday 3 June as we will be hosting a large touring group.

Breakfast will be served as usual that morning, with last orders at 12pm.

The takeaway shed and Larch Room will remain open for anyone passing by, but there will be no kitchen service after 12pm.

This Thursday’s Cheese Club is all about ewe’s milk cheeses.

We’ll be exploring the gentle, creamy character of early summer sheep’s milk cheeses, from fresh, delicate styles to richer, buttery cheeses shaped by lush pasture and the season’s milk.

Along the way we’ll talk about what makes ewe’s milk so distinctive, how flavour changes throughout the year, and a few simple serving ideas to try at home.

The kitchen will also be serving two exclusive seasonal dishes on the night:

• Charred Peach & Lanark Blue Salad
• Corra Linn & Asparagus Potato Rösti

Selina enjoyed a lovely few (hot!) days in Melton Mowbray for the Artisan Cheese Awards — and we were absolutely delighted that she came home with a Gold Award for Elrick Log, which was also named "Best Scottish Cheese".

As well as the judging and awards supper there was a cheese fair over the weekend where we had a stand selling cheese, meeting fellow makers and sharing a little of what happens here on the farm with people from across the UK and Ireland.

Awards are always appreciated, but what matters most is seeing farmhouse cheese and small-scale cheesemaking recognised alongside so many exceptional producers.

A huge thank you to everyone involved — and congratulations to all the other cheesemakers recognised this year.

A closer look at beremeal 🌾

We have recently added a small beremeal and flour range to the shelves at the Barn, including products from Orkney’s Barony Mill and Eviedale Bakehouse, alongside Mungoswells flour from East Lothian.

Beremeal is one of Scotland’s oldest surviving grains — an ancient barley traditionally grown in Orkney with a distinctive nutty flavour and soft texture that works beautifully in baking and alongside cheese.

The range includes stoneground beremeal flour, savoury biscuits, crackers and recipe books for anyone curious to explore this remarkable grain a little further.

Our June Cheese Club celebrates the gentle, creamy character of early summer ewe’s milk cheeses — shaped by fresh pasture, warm days and the richness of the season.

Join us for a guided tasting exploring fresh and young sheep’s cheeses, from delicate, milky styles to deeper buttery flavours. We’ll talk about what makes ewe’s milk so distinctive, how seasonality changes the flavour of the cheese, and simple ways to serve and enjoy them at home.

The kitchen will also be serving two exclusive seasonal dishes on the night:

We’ve got goat yoga again this Saturday and honestly, it’s one of our favourite things to do at the Barn! 🐐

Fresh air, stretching, baby goats everywhere, lots of laughing, and no expectation whatsoever that you need to be 'good' at yoga.
