We can bake to order and welcome advance orders throughout the year, particularly for Christmas produce, birthday cakes, unique gifts and garden produce. Coleshill’s is one of over 350 Country Markets throughout England and Wales with roots going back to 1919, when the Agricultural Organisation Society (now DEFRA) sponsored the setting up of co-operative markets to sell surplus produce. Our producers are mostly local people who enjoy cooking, gardening or crafts and several sell their surplus vegetables, fruit and flowers. We often sell unusual home-produced items that you won’t find in a supermarket and these can make intriguing gifts. We stock over 20 different types of home-made preserves and chutneys and a range of seasonal products such as Christmas cakes, mince pies, holly wreaths, quirky tea-cosies, stained glass baubles and cosy woollen scarves, hats and mittens which can be knitted to order. Producers can join for the princely sum of just 5p and everyone is paid for what they sell at the end of each month after we’ve taken 12.5% to cover the cost of running the market. We’re always on the look-out for new producers and we’d particularly welcome people who want to sell crafts including woodwork, all sorts of baked goods including yeast items plus plants and garden produce. Our cooks have to pass a hygiene exam to make sure that all our baked goods comply with national food regulations. We can offer advice on all aspects of becoming a producer.
