Vale Microgreens is a new local business growing a range of different microgreens and you can try these in our lovely mixed salad boxes, we deliver for free for £3 a tub. But what are microgreens and how did this business come about? One evening myself and my partner were watching a David Attenborough documentary about climate change and gloomy direction in which the world is heading. The programm
e mentioned “Vertical Farming” in cities which helps to reduce global emissions. From this we learnt about “Microgreens”, essentially harvesting a vegetable before it was fully mature. For example, take a broccoli seed, let it grow for only around 10 days and then harvest as a shoot as appose to developing into a full broccoli. Not only are the Microgreens full of flavour and colour but they also are packed with nutrients. Up to 40 times more than the developed vegetable would have. We started to grow Microgreens for ourselves which then led to sharing with friends and family. After some time we decided to take leap into the unknown and approach restaurants in the village! Neither me or my partner had approached a business as a sales person so were a little apprehensive. The feedback from restaurants, villagers has been over whelming, and even local chickens are happy as they get to enjoy the harvested trays.
