September Is a Shoulder Month 🍂🥩
September sits in that sweet spot between summer and autumn. The barbecue weather hasn’t completely disappeared, but cooler evenings start calling for something a little more comforting.
That’s exactly why shoulder cuts come into their own.
Pork shoulder, lamb shoulder and beef shoulder are some of the most versatile cuts on the counter. They’re packed with flavour and suit the changing season perfectly — whether you’re still cooking outside or starting to bring the slow cooker and roasting tin back out.
🔥 Still feeling summery? Slice, dice, marinate or cook low and slow on the BBQ.
🍂 Autumn creeping in? Roast it, braise it or leave it bubbling away for a proper slow-cooked dinner.
Shoulder cuts generally contain a little more connective tissue and intramuscular fat than the prime cuts, which is exactly what makes them so good when given time to cook — becoming beautifully tender, juicy and full of flavour.
And because they’re hardworking cuts, they often offer excellent value for money too.
So if you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer food, but you’re starting to fancy those richer autumn dinners…
September is a shoulder month.
