Florence Road Market

Florence Road Market Brighton farmers' market near Fiveways. Saturday market outside in One Church courtyard. Indoor cafe Florence Road Market is deliberately not on the High Street.

Instead, the neighbourhood farmer's market focusses on developing local food systems and strong community relationships where people live. Extraordinarily high quality produce includes fresh, ethical fish, craft sourdough breads, farm-fresh milk, artisan British cheeses, cured and butchered meat direct from the farmer, farm-direct olive oil, Kent & Sussex vegetables, superb street food, award-winn

ing treats and one of Brighton's best-kept coffee secrets. Strong neighbourhood relationships with weekly shoppers keep the market going, and vulnerable people served by One Church Brighton are offered nurturing positions within the market to combat social isolation.

Look, we know what you're waiting for; we know what makes people gasp and mass on the pavements.

Yep, the DONKEYS ARE BACK this Saturday, and they're even miniature size. (Doesn't make them any less stubborn or easy to move out of the road though ... we've tried!)

Once again, we're grateful to for taking the time from a very busy and socially conscious operation to bring their little stars into Brighton for the holidays. Local farmers are the people we really exist to support.

You should absolutely have a cuddle and chat to our friends about their work. It's not possible to say *exactly* when a donkey will show up, but we're expecting them between 11 and 12.

There will be hot drinks and superb local traders galore while you wait.

We love a good scenic, winter market but we're not gonna lie: This year has been tough!

Almost everyone who grows, makes, or produces things faces a big pile of new costs that make business harder, and it must be hard for most other people too because customers seem to be spending less.

Then comes the wild card: A bonkers stretch of mental weather this year that has made market gazebos impossible and dangerous. We're lucky to have the One Church space in which to hunker down and carry on, but trade often drops as a result.

The point is, if you shop local and relational this Christmas, the impact will likely be huge. You may well be making someone else's Christmas possible. Since we're a charity supporting a range of social projects like Rock Farm, that's definitely the case with us.

Our XL Christmas Fairs start Saturday, rain or shine!

It's that elusive weekend when the greengages appear (IYKYK) and then there's this lush summer crowd as well:

- Miranda's Plants with the last flower stall of the season. Time for those late summer options.
- A Tribe Called Veg with those killer burritos. Very large, very vegan. I always add kimchi.
- Seven Sisters' Spices with the incredibly fresh seasonings for your cooking, plus some pickles. Hint: get the preserved lemons.
- Flint Owl Bakery with the stacks of sourdough and pastry. Get there early.
- The Pudding Co. is whipping up things like blackcurrant & cream fool for your sweet tooth.
- Calcot Farm Produce of course has the premium and locally reared meats. Don't take my chorizo.
- American Joe's Sausage rolls is basically the kind of sausage rolls. You know what to do.
- Beemaybaker is basically the queen of epic cookies. You will want some nutella ones.
- Rock Farm stays on top of local fruit & veg from a range of genius farmers. It's the last of the stone fruits, and they now have sweetcorn!
- Skylark Coffee Roasters has coffee nailed down -- stunning options sourced as ethically as possible. This is what goes into the drinks inside our Lark & Bloom coffee house indoors.

That's a premium crew.
