It was great to welcome the Head Chefs from The Evolv Collection Group, London, to Brixham yesterday morning with Wright Brothers 🏙️🌍🐟

The chefs enjoyed a tour of The World Famous Brixham Fish Market, gaining a behind-the-scenes insight into the fish quay and seeing firsthand where the fish they serve lands, and is graded and quality-checked each day ✅⚖️

From exploring the market floor to learning more about the auction process, it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the quality and provenance that make Brixham so special📍

⛴️ The Emilia Jayne BM10!

The Emilia Jayne is a 23-metre beam trawler based in Brixham.

Originally built in 1991 under a different name and ownership, she is now around 35 years old and has carried the name Emilia Jayne since 2008.

Owned by Mike and skippered by Luke, this vessel catches species like Dover Sole, Turbot, Monkfish, Brill, Cuttlefish and, more recently, Octopus.

In 2009–2010, the Emilia Jayne took part in “Project 50%”, an initiative that brought together Devon beam trawlers and scientists with the aim of helping to protect fish stocks by reducing discards through improved and modified fishing gear.

The Emilia Jayne has been a familiar sight in Brixham Harbour for nearly two decades, so you might spot her heading out to sea or returning to port with her catch ⚓️

We broke TWO records in ONE day last week!

On Tuesday 26 May, following the Spring Bank Holiday Monday, we sold a record-breaking 103 tonnes of octopus at Brixham Fish Market - the highest amount of octopus ever sold in a single day here 🐙

That same day, we also achieved a record-breaking sales day, with over £926k worth of fish sold - the highest value of fish we’ve ever sold in a single day.

This fantastic achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication and teamwork of everyone at BTA, together with the fishers who supply our market and the buyers who purchase the fish and supply the food industry 🙌

Preparing the market for grading 🐟⚙️

As soon as vessels land their catch at Brixham Fish Market, our forklift drivers quickly transport the fish boxes into the market, where the grading process begins.

Throughout the night, every box is sorted, graded and quality checked before being transferred into our BTA white boxes, ready for auction the following morning.

This detailed process helps create an efficient auction, consistent grading standards, and trusted quality for our buyers 🙌

It was a big day for fish today! 🐙🐟

After a busy Bank Holiday weekend of landings, this morning’s market was full of quality fish and octopus, purchased by our buyers and heading from sea to table 🙌

Tim - Night Shift Supervisor

Having previously worked for Brixham Trawler Agents earlier in his career, Tim returned to the business in 2023 as one of our Night Shift Supervisors.

He plays an important role in preparing and setting up the market each afternoon ahead of the busy night shift, helping operations run smoothly from the start.

Tim also supervises the early starters on the night shift, bringing valuable experience and leadership to the team.

These photos were taken on Monday afternoon as the Jazzy B landed some top-quality pot-caught octopus.

The next few days are shaping up to be BIG markets, especially Friday, ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend.

We should have a rich selection of the finest local seafood available for our buyers ⏰
