💛 WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY | MAN O PAUSE

Today is about starting conversations that can genuinely matter.

And that is exactly why we created MAN O PAUSE.

Menopause doesn’t happen to one person in isolation.

When a woman is struggling with anxiety, low mood, poor sleep, irritability, loss of confidence or simply says…

“I don’t feel like myself anymore.”

…it can affect her partner, her family, her friendships and her workplace too.

But what about the men?

Do they understand what’s happening?
Do they know how to support the woman they love?
And just as importantly, who is checking in on them?

Mental health needs to be part of the menopause conversation, for everyone involved.

That’s why MAN O PAUSE is bringing women AND men into the same room.

We’re going to talk.

We’re going to listen.

We’re going to learn how to understand each other better.

Because sometimes knowing what is happening, why it is happening and how you can support one another can make an enormous difference.

💚 The MAN in MAN O PAUSE.
💚 Putting the PAUSE into menopause.

This isn’t just another menopause event.

It’s a conversation we need to have.

🎟️ Tickets available now, come alone, with your partner, a friend or someone who simply needs to understand more.

And today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, remember:

You never really know what somebody is carrying.
Ask. Listen. Stay connected.

If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, Samaritans are available 24/7 on 116 123.

🧠 “Neurons that fire together, wire together.”

Your brain gets better at what you repeatedly practise and that doesn’t just apply to physical habits. It applies to your thoughts and the way you speak to yourself too.

Think about how often you repeat things like:

“I’m not good enough.”
“I always mess things up.”
“I can’t do this.”
“I’ll never change.”

The more frequently we repeat a pattern of thinking, the more familiar and automatic that pathway can become.

But here’s the important part… neuroplasticity works both ways.

You can practise a different response:

💚 “I’m learning.”
💚 “Progress takes time.”
💚 “I can do hard things.”
💚 “I’m making a difference.”

This isn’t about pretending everything is wonderful or forcing yourself to “think positive.”

It’s about awareness, repetition and practice, catching an unhelpful thought and choosing a more constructive, realistic one.

Just like building a physical habit, we build mental patterns through repetition.

Your thoughts are part of your daily patterns too.

Be intentional with the way you speak to yourself and about yourself. Your brain is listening. 🧠💚

💚 THE SESSION MIGHT BE OVER… BUT THE SUPPORT ISN’T.

Today I had a session with a client, and afterwards I sent over my usual check-in email, recapping what we’d discussed, the areas we’re focusing on and the practical steps to take forward.

Her reply?

“Thanks Julie, this is really useful to me.”

And that’s exactly what I want.

I don’t want you leaving a consultation overloaded with information, trying to remember everything we talked about.

I want you leaving with clarity, direction and an understanding of WHY we’re making the changes we’ve discussed.

Because good nutrition coaching isn’t just about telling someone what to eat.

It’s about listening.
Understanding the individual.
Looking at their lifestyle and current habits.
Educating rather than dictating.
And giving them realistic, actionable steps they can actually implement.

No generic plans.
No information overload.
No “perfect” diet to follow.

Just personalised, evidence-based support that helps you understand your own health better.

Direction, not correction. 💚

🍟 “But I thought sweet potato fries were healthier?”

A conversation with a client today reminded me just how powerful food marketing can be.

They’d always believed sweet potato fries were the healthier choice because sweet potatoes had been labelled a “superfood.”

But here’s the thing…

There are no superfoods. There is food. There is fuel.

🍠 Sweet potatoes provide plenty of beta-carotene.
🥔 White potatoes provide potassium, vitamin C and B6.
🍟 Turn either into fries and the cooking method, added fat and portion size can make far more difference than whether the potato is white or orange.

One food isn’t automatically “good” and another “bad.”

Nutrition is about the whole picture, what you eat regularly, variety, portions, preparation and what your individual body needs.

So next time you’re choosing between regular fries and sweet potato fries?

Choose the ones you actually prefer. ❤️

Stop giving individual foods a health halo.

Nutrition without the noise.
Food is food. Fuel your body, don’t fear it.

MENOPAUSE AFFECTS RELATIONSHIPS TOO.

But how often do we actually talk about it together?

Introducing MAN-O-PAUSE: Understanding menopause, together.

On Sunday 18 October, we’re bringing couples together at Pendle Padel Club for a relaxed afternoon of:

Padel. Conversation. Purpose.

There’ll be plenty of time on court, alongside a few short and honest conversations from Julie and Darren, menopause specialist Carrie and her partner Anthony, plus Dave from Six Connections, who’ll share why men’s mental health and talking before crisis matters too.

This isn’t a menopause lecture.

It’s an afternoon about understanding each other a little better, opening up conversations that can sometimes feel difficult, and having some fun while we do it.

We’ll also be holding a charity raffle, with all proceeds supporting The Menopause Charity and Mind.

Sunday 18 October
12pm–3pm
Pendle Padel Club

£50 per couple
Only 20 couple tickets available

Sponsored by Elenzia.

Come for the padel. Leave understanding each other a little better.

🥾💪 BOOTCAMP & BREAKFAST WAS A HIT! ☕️🥑

And you know what… I pretty much forgot to take any pictures. 😂

The few I did manage to get were of half-eaten food because apparently I remembered after we’d all tucked in! 🤦‍♀️

But actually, I think that says everything.

Sometimes no photos = being present in the moment.

Moving our bodies, enjoying good food, chatting, laughing and spending time with like-minded people, without feeling the need to capture every second of it.

This = enjoyment.
This = connection.
This = being present. 💚

A brilliant Bootcamp & Breakfast and a lovely reminder that some of the best moments aren’t always the ones we photograph… they’re the ones we’re too busy enjoying. 🙌

Thank you to everyone who came along. 💚Mooch Cafe87

✨ IT WAS NEVER JUST ABOUT FINDING YOUR COLOURS… ✨

What an absolutely amazing evening! 💚

A huge thank you to Sarah Harris from Colour Me Beautiful for bringing such a fabulous group of like-minded people together.

Yes, we found the colours that make us shine 🌈… but what I loved most was watching something else happen.

Confidence grew.
Conversations started.
People connected.
We laughed.
We encouraged each other.
And everyone walked away knowing a little bit more about themselves. ❤️

Because health and wellbeing aren’t just about food, exercise or what we see on the scales.

They’re about how we FEEL.

How we speak to ourselves.
How we see ourselves.
The people we surround ourselves with.
And having the confidence to show up as ourselves.

Sometimes something as simple as discovering the colours that make you feel amazing can give you that little spark back. ✨

And THAT is what Discover Health is all about.

💚 The whole person.
💚 Confidence. Connection. Wellbeing.
💚 Feeling good from the inside out.

Thank you Sarah, and thank you to every single person who came along and made the evening what it was.

More evenings like this please! 🙌🌈

Big thank you to katy and co catering for the amazing cheese & biscuit pots.

Feeling exhausted all the time? 🪫

It might be worth looking beyond simply getting an earlier night.

Our energy levels and immune health don’t work in isolation. Nutrition, sleep, stress, gut health, movement and recovery can all influence how well we feel and function.

🥗 Nutrition matters. Are you eating enough overall and getting sufficient protein, vitamins and minerals?

😴 Sleep matters. Regular poor-quality or insufficient sleep can affect energy levels and immune function.

🧠 Stress matters. Ongoing stress can influence cortisol and the way our immune system responds.

🦠 Gut health matters. There is a close relationship between the gut and our immune system.

🏋️‍♀️ Movement matters. Regular physical activity supports circulation, metabolic health and healthy immune function.

And sometimes persistent fatigue can indicate that something else needs investigating, rather than simply being put down to a busy life.

This is exactly why, at Discover Health, I look beyond one symptom.

Rather than only asking “Why am I tired?”, we look at your nutrition, hydration, sleep, movement, stress, recovery and individual circumstances to build a much bigger picture.

Often, progress isn’t about changing one thing dramatically.

It’s about improving 10 things by 1%. 💚
