Asparagus Season is in full swing or Sparrow Grass as it was colloquially known until the 1800s but originally coming from the Greek Aspharagos rooted from a Persian word meaning ‘sprout’ or ‘shoot’.

It enjoys a short season here in the UK so we’ll be making the most of it with plenty available for the next few weeks. It’s a very labour-intensive crop with each spear harvested by hand. Ours are grown by Bedlam Farms across Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire and the vibrant green spears are wonderfully fresh, sweet and delicately grassy.
