Can one lone Aussie from the Scottish Highlands take on the best British Pie makers in the entire United Kingdom?
We have entered 4 pies into this years The British Pie Awards hoping to pick up a Gold, Silver or Bronze and possibly Class Winner in the Olympics of the Pie World. We are competing against a record 1,012 pies entered this year. Judging for the Awards will take place in Melton Mowbray, the UK Capital of Pies on 4th March with the results being announced at an Awards Lunch on 6th March.
British Pie Week 2-9th March celebrates Britian’s most important contribution to world food heritage, the pie. We eat over £1billion of them every year, hot-cold, sweet-savoury and now gluten free, vegan, fusion etc. They’ve been with us since the Middle Ages when they were called ‘coffyns’. At that time the poor ate pies made from the entrails of venison, called ‘umbles’ hence the expression ‘To Eat Umble Pie”.
Aussie Pies will be celebrating British Pie Week by showcasing our delicious pies and have entered our Halloumi & Vegetable Pie in hopes of taking victory in the Vegetarian category, our Venison Pie for the Game Pie category, Beef for the Beef Category and the very popular Satay Chicken for the Fusion Pie category.
Aussie Pies have sold their handmade pies from our shop in Cannich and online for a few years and this will be our first time putting our pies up against the best in the UK. Starting with a plain Beef a few years ago the range now includes Peppered Steak; if you can take the heat, Venison, Minted Lamb, Macaroni & Cheese, Kangaroo & Ale plus the standards like Chicken & Mushroom, Beef & Mushroom, Steak & Cheese, Beef & Potato as well as a range of Sausage rolls; all of which are handmade on site.
