Yesterday, we were supposed to fly home from Catania and get back to work.

But Mount Etna had other plans. 🌋

With the airport situation, our journey home was unexpectedly delayed by a couple of days. At first, we were frustrated. We had plans, a shop to reopen, orders to organise and so much to catch up on.

But then we stopped.

We looked around and realised that, perhaps, Sicily was simply asking us to stay a little longer. ❤️

So instead of fighting the unexpected, we decided to enjoy it.

A little more Palermo.
A little more wandering through beautiful streets and ancient churches.
A little more time in Piazza Pretoria, admiring the Cathedral and the incredible layers of history that make this island what it is.
A little more food, coffee, w**e, laughter and time together.

And suddenly, what felt like a delay became a gift.

This is the land we come from. The land that inspires Khione, the producers we work with, the food we bring to Cardiff and the stories we love to share with you.

Sometimes life doesn’t follow the plan — and sometimes the best thing we can do is stop trying to control it and simply enjoy where we are. 🌿

So, Cardiff, we’re sorry that we’ll be reopening our doors a little later than planned. We promise we’re coming back with full hearts, plenty of stories from Sicily and, of course, lots of delicious things to share with you.

Because no matter how many times we leave, Sicily always reminds us why we love what we do.

A little delay. A lot more Sicily. And a heart full of gratitude. 🇮🇹❤️

🇮🇹 WE’RE GOING HOME. FOR FOUR WEEKS. 🇮🇹

Yes… four weeks. 😅
We know. It sounds like a very long holiday.

But there’s a reason.

From 17 August to 14 September, Khione will be closing its doors while we head back to Sicily.

We’re a small family business, and after a very long year of working pretty much non-stop, it’s time to go home.

And this isn’t just any time of year in Sicily.

🍇 It’s vendemmia season.

Our family’s vineyards will soon be ready for harvest, and the grapes will become the small-batch w**e that many of you already know and love at Khione.

It’s my brother’s w**e, made from our own vines, and there’s only a limited amount each year — which is why some of you are already waiting for it. ❤️

🌰 It’s also almond harvest time, another tradition that is part of our family and our land.

These are the moments that bring everyone together: working side by side, sharing food, stories and long days in the countryside, and passing traditions from one generation to the next.

And after a very long year, we want to be there for it.

To recharge.
To spend time with family.
To help with the harvest.
To discover a few new things to bring back to Khione.

And apparently, being part of the family means I’m expected to help with the vendemmia too… 😂🍇

Oh, and there’s also the small matter of turning 40 this September. 🥂

So yes — four weeks away.

Not exactly a holiday.
More like going back to our roots.

🇮🇹 20 September — ITALIA FESTIVAL at Tiger Yard!

We’ll be back in time to join the celebration, together with the other Italian businesses and makers.

We’ll be bringing plenty of Sicily with us — panini, arancini, cannoli and more. ❤️

And before we disappear…

If you need to stock up on Black Pig Ragù, pasta, Sicilian w**e or anything else from Khione, you’ve got 11 days. 😉

Then we’re off.

We’ll see you again on 15 September, hopefully rested, inspired and with a suitcase full of Sicily.

Yesterday I discovered that Bonnie Tyler was Welsh.

I don’t know why I had never realised it before, but when I did, I played her songs again… and I found myself unexpectedly emotional.

What surprised me the most was the feeling of pride. A genuine sense of pride, almost as if she were somehow one of ours.

Then I realised something.

After all these years living in Cardiff, Wales has quietly become part of me. It has given me opportunities, friendships, memories, and a place that has felt like home. Without even noticing, I have started carrying a little piece of Wales in my heart.

Today, I’m mourning not only an extraordinary artist whose voice will live forever, but also celebrating a woman who represented this beautiful nation with such strength and authenticity.

Thank you, Bonnie Tyler, for your music.

And thank you, Wales, for making me feel that it’s possible to belong to more than one place.

A heartfelt thank you to Cardiff W**e Festival for inviting us to be part of such a wonderful celebration of w**e, culture, and community.

To everyone who stopped by our stand, shared a conversation, discovered new flavours, and tasted our selection of Sicilian w**es — thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and appreciation for Sicily made this experience truly special.

As FEAST comes to an end, we want to say a heartfelt thank you.

Thank you to the incredible organisers for creating such a vibrant celebration of food, culture and community. It was a privilege to be part of something so special.

Today at the festival, the biggest smiles weren’t around the food stalls. They were running across the park holding Khione balloons.

In Italy, hospitality has never been just about food. It’s about making space for everyone at the table — families, friends, neighbours, children and strangers who quickly become friends.

A good celebration isn’t measured by what is sold, but by how many people feel included.

Seeing hundreds of children playing together reminds us of something simple: the best traditions are the ones that bring people together.

That’s the Italy we love. And that’s the spirit we bring to Cardiff.
