I’ve worked out what will be in this years Christmas hampers however I’m not sure how much they’ll be yet as prices are so sporadic at the moment. I will be able to publish the cost of a hamper a little nearer to the time when I have a better idea of what they’ll cost me to make. I’ve always been very transparent with my pricing and I have no problem showing people what the product cost me to buy.
Here are some screenshots from one of my suppliers price list, This is not me having a go at the supplier, they have to pay more for the produce just like everybody else, it’s here to show people the real problem with veg and salad supplies at the moment

Supermarkets are putting their prices up too even though the price they pay the farmers will have been agreed long before the summer, They’ll still pay the farmers a pittance where as fresh market suppliers where we buy from will pay the face value on the day of purchase that’s why we pay more for stock then the supermarkets do. We also don’t pump the store rooms with nitrogen to preserve the stock because we don’t need to, our stock is harvested, brought to market then sold to the consumer ensuring you get it as fresh as possible, The only way you can get it fresher is if you grow it yourself.
It’s a quick process,no need sit in nitrogen filled warehouses for weeks on end.

Vine Tomatoes at an all time high at £4.39 per kilo, That’s just craziness

Beef Tomatoes at £27 a tray is unbelievable.

It’s costing us more to buy them than we are able to sell them for and I hear fools say that global warming is good ‘because we get hot weather’

Droughts are never good.

Here you have it, A trader who’s prepared to show the public what they actually pay for stock. The common notion that we get it for pennies and sell it for a fortune has been truly debunked!

This is why prices are going up with everybody who sells fruit and veg. We are being squeezed mercilessly

Maris Piper are still out of season at the moment so I’m now working these beautiful Sagitta Potatoes.
Personally I prefer them over Maris Piper, They’re also favoured by Chip Shops, Most Chippies use these.

They’re a great all round potato but are especially good for chipping and roasting.

These will be in the veg boxes and large mixed boxes and are also available in 25 kilo sacks for £17 which is a great price considering there’s a shortage.

A fair few people have asked about this years Christmas Hampers. I’ve also been thinking about them too however I havn’t got around to working out what to put in them and how the logistics of delivering them all will be, Last year was an outstanding success with the hampers, I sold 3 times more than I was expecting to sell, The orders were coming at me faster than I could write them down however it did result in me having to work 20 hours a day for 4 days straight and I was under immense pressure and extremely tired. In fact I slept for most of Christmas Day and saw very little of my family as I was wiped out so this year has to be different. I think I’ll cap it at 100 orders this year, last year I packed and delivered nearly 180 hampers over 4 days to 4 different counties, I can’t do that many on my own again this year and I can’t rely on anybody else to deliver some for me, last year I was let down by somebody who was supposed to help with deliveries and they didn’t turn up in the morning and left me snowed in with twice the amount of work, I don’t want that happening again that’s why I work alone and don’t rely on anybody.

So, I’ll work out the hampers in the next couple of weeks and will put the details on the page.

Also, This year they will need to be paid for in full before they are delivered, Last year I was still chasing a lot of payments well into January and it caused me alot of stress. This year it will be a ‘Jon doesn’t get stressed out’ type of Christmas!

Notice: Changes to set boxes as from Tuesday 8th September.

There has been some changes to availability and prices with several products that go into all the boxes.

Fruit boxes will remain the same price but will have no pineapple, They will be replaced kiwi fruits and additional apple and pears. They’re £20.00

Salad boxes will now have heritage radish as standard but will now be £14.50

Veg boxes will no longer have Pembroke new potatoes and will be replaced with parsnips and swede and will now be £14.50

Large mixed boxes will have no pineapple but will parsnips and Swede and Kiwi fruits added.
Salad potatoes included in box- baking Potatoes sold separately. They are now £37.00

Delivery £2.50 for all areas.

As always swaps are welcome providing the replacement items are available.

The extremely dry summer has impacted both the availability and price of most veg and salad products.

Fruit boxes price has not been affected.

So, As from Tuesday September the 8th the current boxes will be

I will also be introducing a new box (fruit and veg mix as we go into winter because it’s difficult to get enough fruit variety to make fruit boxes so will do a fruit and veg combined box- details to follow)

I will update the box contents list accordingly over the weekend.

I’ve no option but to introduce these new prices and make these changes to the boxes. The wholesale cost has risen to a point where keeping the prices the same as they always have been will mean selling them at a loss. It’s a problem that’s effecting greengrocers all across the UK and further afield.

As always the boxes will contain only the highest quality produce available.

There will be no compromise on quality.
