Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting members of our local assembly to discuss the benefits of growing more of our own food locally 🌱

Right now, we rely heavily on imports to keep our fresh produce aisles full — but there’s so much more we can and should be growing ourselves. Increasing local production would not only strengthen our food security, but also boost human health and wellbeing, support the environment, and benefit our local economy. 🌾

While support from the top is vital, real change starts with us — the consumers. By choosing local produce and backing businesses that do the same, we can help build a more resilient food system together. 💚

We're going ahead as planned tomorrow 10:30-3:30, we will be inside and out of the rain so come along and see what's on offer.

I have a nice range of veg picked this morning before the storm - sadly not before the rain 🌧

PS I will be doing a limited number of markets this Autumn as we have a newborn in the house - give me a follow if you want to know which ones I will be attending.

✔️Tomorrow’s market is a go! 10:30-3:30 It should be reasonably dry, mild and the winds 💨 are forecasted to have dropped! You might still need to hold on to your hat 🎩 but the barn is sheltered and we’ll be ready for you! Please note that the yard door will have limited access as the wind will be west-ish by then!
🍱 ☕️ 🍰 🧀 If you need sustenance there’ll be hot food, coffee, delicious tray bakes to eat and home baking, cheese boards, organic meats, organic fruit and veg to go! See you there!

The Three Graces: Blue Kuri, Red Kuri & Green Hokkaido Squash 🍂🎃

I don’t grow decorative pumpkins—but I do grow some seriously delicious squash that just happen to be stunningly beautiful.

Unlike your standard pumpkin, the flesh of these squashes is dense, with a rich, nutty flavor. They’re perfect roasted or turned into hearty soups and curries. Think of them as a great alternative to butternut squash!

Bonus: No need to peel them! The skin is also edible, and softens considerably when cooked.

Available for delivery through my website or at the greengrocers in Whitehead and Carrick. will also feature them in their Belfast veg boxes this week. Grab yours before they’re gone!

High summer harvests in Northern Ireland!

This week’s veg boxes were packed with seasonal goodies, including locally sourced tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, strawberries, and mushrooms — all grown within an hour of the farm.

Everything else is grown right here on the farm, like our eye-catching Chioggia (candystripe) beetroot and the sweet, pointy Filderkraut cabbages.

I’m often asked at market what Golden Beetroot are like—well, here’s a look inside. Compared to regular beetroot, they have a milder, slightly sweeter flavour. One big advantage: they won’t ‘bleed’ so you can add them to a soup or stew without turning the entire dish red!

The variety pictured is Boldor, sown at the end of March and transplanted in late April.

Lovely day selling lots of fresh veg at Ballycastle. Always impressed by the demand for naturally grown fresh veg along the north coast. Cushendall next Sunday(10th) and back to Ballycastle again on the 17th. Big thanks to Naturally North Coast and Glens for organising another excellent market.
