Well… this wasn’t a rebrand we had in mind! We promise this is our attempt at a slightly dark joke in the circumstances… we’re still the Pig as you know it, albeit a lil’ smokey!

As many of you know, we had a fire in in the early hours of this morning and whilst our home hasn’t faired quite so well upstairs, we’re very fortunate that the fire door did exactly what it’s meant to do and kept things largely contained to the flat kitchen. We’re still yet to understand the full extent of the damage, but we know it could have been much worse. Most importantly, everyone is safe — which is what really matters!

The good news (and a small silver lining) is that the pub itself has come through almost unscathed - so, in true spirit, we’re leaning into it… welcome (temporarily!) to The Smoky Pig 🐷🔥

So while this isn’t the kind of “hot new look” we were going for, we’re hoping to get back to pulling pints and serving you all again tomorrow 🍻

A quick note on food: we will be cooking, but keeping things a little flexible — it’ll be walk-ins only for now. We’ve cancelled bookings just so we don’t overpromise while we get back on our feet, and we really appreciate your patience.

Thank you so much for all the kind messages and support. Our wonderful community, family, friends, staff, customers and neighbours have absolutely rallied around us this morning and it truly means a lot - and of course an impossibly huge thank you to the incredible people at Grange fire service who’s brave efforts contained the blaze as swiftly and efficiently as possible and saved our little village pub, the neighbouring cottages and family home ♥️

You may have seen on tv recently about the couple from America who travelled 12,000 miles to Cumbria, to find a scenic viewpoint from their TV screensaver. The location was Newlands Valley near Keswick.

At the weekend a couple visited Cartmel Village Shop from Ireland, armed with a magazine cutting that they had seen a couple of months earlier 😄

Not quite the 12000 miles, from America , AI tells us its approximately 270–300 miles across the water between Ireland an Cumbria, we think this is dedication to get a taste of our ubiquitous pudding, we hope the couple enjoyed their visit to Cartmel 😁
