Extending the irrigation down the field in April is feeling like a lot right now! Interesting to see the profile of the soil, and stressful to watch the clay subsoil bake hard in the sun. You can also see the difference a few weeks have made to the colour of our grass. Its already so brown for this time of year. The water will be very needed.

Cameron has been trooping on over the last few weeks juggling bed prep, planting, seed sowing and digging a deep skinny trench down the field so that we have more access points for water.

Chris and farmer Tom have also been getting stuck in with digging and figuring out where the access points will fit. We're so grateful to Tom for making this happen.

We're hoping to have the most disruptive bit filled back in before the plant sale on Monday!

One last workshop before we get into our busy summer season (it's already feeling quite busy to be honest!)

I'm excited to show you everything I've learnt over the last 10 years about growing your own microgreens and sprouts. These delicious baby plants are affordable and easy for you to grow with limited space. I'll show you simple techniques, different options for seeds and materials, some mistakes to avoid and help you plan how to fit growing your own nutritious greens at home into your routine. Plus there will be tasters and cake :)

Sold out of all our fresh produce this morning (apart from this one box of sunflower shoots which I'm excited to eat for lunch!)

We are likely to have lower quantities of salad and greens over the next few weeks while we transition from polytunnel to outdoor crops that need to catch up. We've still got plenty to offer at the moment with lots of plants and seedlings, juice from and pulses and grains. And of course the Microgreens, including a new 'superfood' mix.

We had a great time harvesting herbs and flowers for seasonal meal this week. Super excited to be working with Ro and the team at Kettles Yard.

We're right at the start of flower season and feeling extra glad that planted flowers in the polytunnel so we could have these early blooms ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒธ

Thanks to for these gorgeous photos ๐Ÿ˜Š and Ro for sharing a photo of the stunning plating ๐Ÿคฉ

It's that time again, how did we get here so quickly!

This month we'll actually be prepping beds and planting out brassicas. Plus sowing more seeds and potting on plants.

In the afternoon we'll have a go at processing clay and making things with it!

Let us know you're coming by getting a ticket here (link in bio/stories too) https://www.ticketsource.com/sweetpeamarketgarden/april-community-work-day/

Thursdays are a joy at the moment. So much happens I look back and can't believe all these photos are from the same day.

Last week we mulched our berries with wool, weeded strawberries, planted out salad, potted on plants, sowed more seeds, got the tractor out, checked out new tool and did a farm walk with a teacher planning to bring their kids for a visit.

All in a day's work!

Get in touch off you'd like to come and volunteer on a Thursday morning. 9am-1pm.

What a brilliant way to spend an afternoon in the sunshine. A very big thank you to Wendy for leading our afternoon workshop on growing your own veg this weekend. Wendy came prepared with pots and sharpies, seeds, plants and a wealth of knowledge to share. Not forgetting the excellent rhubarb muffins and allotment jams with scones. I've learnt a lot and am excited to get planning our future workshops in Organic gardening.

Also huge thanks to everyone who came along. It's wonderful to be able to host you at the market garden and we hope to see you all again ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ

Massive thank you to Wendy for coming and sharing your expertise! An excellent workshop, I'm excited to offer more!

Our long term goal is to minimise soil disturbance as much as possible. In the mean time we need to get our soil to the point that we can get plants established as efficiently as possible to catch the weather windows we have available.

This feels like big progress for us! There is a bit of fine tuning of course. We're so excited to grow more veg to feed our community.
