CHABICHOU

Chabichou hails from the Poitou Chevre creamery in Bougon, Poitou-Charentes. The dairy has been in existence since 1906 when local goat farmers joined together to form a dairy to turn all their milk into cheese. In 2016 a family firm Poitou-Chevre from the neighbouring village took over the Bougon dairy and its production is solely traditional local cheeses. A gentle yet pleasing goats cheese with an influence on its flavour from the ye**ty goetrichum rind which lends a subtle animal flavour with hints of hazelnut.

We have been blown away.

So many kind words from so many. Simply saying thank you doesn't seem to convey the genuine love we have felt from Westbury Park and the wider community.

Today, these two, utterly perfect and beautiful little tarts were dropped in by Danielle from simply to say 'I heard your news, I hope these help you feel a bit better'.

With so much bad news out there at the moment, remember there is more good. Small gestures or words mean so, so much.

This happened last night.

Leo arrived at 5.30am to get our market stuff ready and now he's sweeping up glass. So folks, he may not be set up for 8.30am as usual.

The old door has been completely smashed in. There is glass everywhere. We don't keep cash in our little shop and nothing else has been taken.

I am sorry whoever did this felt so desperate. We are just a little shop. We are all independent traders on North View making a living. But it is only glass and wood, it can be repaired.

So, bear with us. We will be open as normal and will hopefully have everything cleared up in time for opening.

Mistralou is BACK!

One of our favourite little seasonal goat's milk cheeses made by Francois and Vanessa Masto on their farm in Simiane-la Rotande, Haute Provence. The Mastos have a small herd of around 70 Rove goats, producing milk from February to September. Roves are an ancient local breed distinguished by their magnificent horns twisted into the shape of a lyre. Once bred primarily for meat, Roves risked extinction as the popularity of goat meat declined. However they now populate the region in healthy numbers, having been rediscovered as a milking animal. And what milk! It is particularly thick, creamy and sweet, and is the star of the Mistralou recipe.

Mistralou is a lactic set cheese with a feather-soft texture. The recipe is intentionally light on salt, letting the perfumed, honey flavours of the Rove milk shine through. Each cheese is wrapped up in a Sweet Chestnut leaf, giving a tiny edge of tannin and earthiness to the otherwise floral milk flavours.

Crafted by chaos... an normous lighting storm 'knocked out' power to the Guntensperger Dairy. During the ensuing chaos an accidental over pouring of cream occurred... the result is Gwitterchas. Rich and velvety with notes of mushroom broth, white pepper and roasted onion. Limited supplies available so pop in and grab some while you can!

Relaxed, informal and for anyone who just loves cheese and wine. Whilst Leo chats you through ten different cheeses to sample, Louise introduces and pours five wines. All accompanied by olives, charcuterie and bread.

We tend to focus on mid mature 10yr plus fine wines which you will never find in the supermarket. And with an ample wine budget, you will be trying some of the best wines out there!

WANDERING EWE IS BACK

Hugh dropped five of his finest cheeses into us this afternoon and it's safe to say, we are pretty excited.

Made by Hugh and Pippa Stables in Failand, Bristol from their own flock of sheep. Milked outside no matter the weather, this is a testament to the levels of care and dedication that go into each and every cheese.

We will be pairing this cheese on Thursday's 'Pour' tasting with Les Quilles Libres 2010 and you will also be able to find it at Carmen Street Bottleshop on
