Week 23 on the farm; butterflies, moths and dragonflies are in abundance! We moved the pigs to a new part of the woods, the piglets haven't quite got the memo about moving yet. Meanwhile the cows and new calves born this spring know exactly what to do when the fence is opened! We're starting to feed some of our homegrown barley to the pigs; it's been rolled and we had the dusty job of bagging it to store. The market garden team have spotted some beautiful moths while planting out veg seedlings, picking broad beans & sweet peas and harvesting garlic; can anyone ID them for us? We showed our friend .cayzer around the farm in showery weather; she is setting up a market garden and cafe near Charlbury. Annie spent Friday in Wales at super sustainable livestock conference ; excellent talks on farming journeys , mental health .ag, soil biology and dung beetles . Farm dog Scroggy enjoyed a trip off the farm too!

Bringing piglets into the world is a new experience for us on the farm and it has brought so much joy ✨

Ginger gave birth (farrowed) in the day and what an incredible thing to witness. Popping out eleven perfectly formed tiny pigs in rapid succession with each one suckling before the next is even born.

Pinky farrowed in the night, we left her to it and were treated to six little cuties first thing on bank holiday Monday.

The natural instincts of both sows is intense; they built elaborate nests outside in the woods but with a little encouragement we got them to farrow in our super arks.

The arks protect them from the weather (they both chose rainy days to give birth), predators and being squashed by their mums until they are robust enough to get out and about. We had no losses which is amazing really. Feeling lucky.

Thanks to our friends for answering all our questions, we've only farrowed two pigs but they've overseen hundreds of births!

Week 22 on the farm; it was a hot one! Mostly spent finding ways to keep everyone cool, livestock, people and plants. We started early to beat the heat, made a wallow for the pigs and put the cattle in the woods (a first!). An old issue with the quad bike resurfaced which called for road rescue (Tony) on bank holiday Monday. It was too hot in the tunnel for baby brassicas so we moved some propagation to the pack shed. Flowers are still in abundance, being visited regularly by pollinators and making our salad look very pretty. Floral mixed salad went to and . Annie joined the 2026 Regen Ag Accelerator Programme which kicked off with an excellent soil workshop with at . We did our usual last Thursday of the month stall at and are hatching plans with our friends at . Spot the horizontal happy lines on the side of the cow's stomach which indicates they are in good condition. We love tall grass grazing, it keeps the ground temperature down, it's good for pollinators and insects, it's ideal for calves to hide in/stay cool and the cows get great nutrition from seed heads - they always go for these first! Nothing better than moving through a tall herbal ley accompanied by butterflies and dragonflies. 💚✨🌿

Week 21 on the farm; a feast of flowers! While calving slowed down a few weeks ago we're still waiting for a few cows to give birth, Precious had a lovely heifer. Tony continued cultivating our wild bird feed strips which were drilled by from at the end of the week. Annie attended a fab women for nature event organised by .loveplants, facilitated by and hosted at . The piglets are getting out and about; they are so curious! Flowers are in abundance; sainfoin and salad burnet in the herbal leys, nasturtium, phacelia and calendula in the polytunnel, scabious on the field edges, fumitory in the woods and vetch in the orchard. Charles our boar is enjoying his holiday with Roxie ; holding tails! Every week we welcome lovely customers to the farm to collect their veg and meat and hopefully catch sight of a few flowers too. The weather was a bit bonkers- from rain and cold to pushing 30 degrees in a week!

Summer crops are officially in the polytunnel. Soon this will be a tomato and basil jungle.. what a perfect combination.
🍅
If you're eating at or this summer you will most likely eat produce from in here!
🌿
Calendula, chive flowers and nasturtiums all go as edible flowers in our salads too - beautiful and delicious.

Tomatoes and salad will be staples in our veg boxes soon!

Week 20 on the farm; everything is growing! We've got calves, veg seedlings and piglets sizing up. We have masses of hares around! Do you? We're picking delicious fresh garlic, taking out bolted chard and planting tomatoes in the polytunnel. Charles our boar is taking a little holiday to to hang out with Roxy their lovely Berkshire sow.. stay tuned to hear how they are getting on. We're growing on oak trees. Alex and visited for the and came back inspired to plant more green manures. The bees are out and about as flowers bloom across the farm. You know the phrase sleep like a baby? Well I applies to calves too.. and they often look a tiiiiiny bit dead 😱

Week 19 on the farm; in the early hours of the bank holiday we welcomed six piglets to mother Pinky! Harry and Tony had fun on the platform sorting a tree out. We potted on tomatoes and herbs, put together veg boxes and got v tasty venison burgers back from the butcher. We fed, moved and checked livestock. We brought all the young cattle back to weigh them. We LOVE to see flowers and pollinators across the farm. Piglets are growing like weeds and twins are being cute. We rounded off the week with Cirencester Farmer's Market; love meeting customers and other traders and sharing the love for good food!
