I love getting feedback from customers and when it comes with a photo too, that’s even better. Golden yolk eggs for our hens and bacon lardons from our rare breed pigs. One day I’d like to be growing and supplying the veg in these photos too.

This is Als take on a savoury gallette for a belated pancake day. With buckwheat flour milk and egg. Topping....kale, Jerusalem artichokes, lardons, egg, mushrooms, potato bits, black sesame seeds, Pecorino cheese.

Doesn’t it look great!

We have some truly spectacular products available straight from the farm 🍎🥚

🐖 Fresh rare breed pork available this week. Born and raised here at Ashridge Farm in Staunton. Our animals are treated with kindness and compassion throughout. Animal welfare is at the very top of the list, allowing them to live the life they truly deserve, and the result is a product that I am extremely proud of.

Supporting small local farms means supporting high welfare farming and knowing exactly where your food comes from. Your support really does make a difference to farms like ours.

Spring is on its way

Earlier this month we processed two pigs — one porker and our very first baconer — and it’s been a busy couple of weeks both on the farm and in the butchers.

Our bacon sold out instantly! The chipolata sausages have been just as popular, with all flavours flying out the door — only four bags of the local favourite Ashridge Original remain. There are no shoulder joints left, and gammon was a big hit too, though we still have a few joints available from both collar and leg. We also have a couple of packs of belly pork and some absolutely gorgeous chops.

I do often get a double take from the butchers when I ask for everything — offal, skin, bones, head — but nothing goes to waste here. These animals’ lives are valued, and I believe in using as much as possible, respecting the whole animal from nose to tail.

Pre-orders are strongly encouraged for our next batch, due in three weeks’ time, to avoid village warfare! 🐖🔥 Get in touch to find out what we have available and to reserve ahead of the next batch.

I’m no food photographer, but today definitely earned a pat on the back 👏

Brunch came straight from the farm: home-reared streaky bacon on crispy hash browns, featuring our own eggs, homegrown onions and potatoes, all topped with our runny fresh free-range eggs. I can’t take credit for the salt and pepper… or the cooking on this occasion — but I can take credit for choosing a great man and letting him marry me 😆

And then there was tea. Home-reared pork tenderloin with our shallots forming the base of a masala sauce, hasselback homegrown potatoes seasoned with a homemade winter herb salt rub, and roasted lemon and garlic purple sprouting broccoli on the side. I was far too excited to take photos of that one.

In the grand scheme of things, it was a whole day of food grown straight from our farm, and that feels pretty special 🌱

🫏 Watch this jelly-legged donkey go to heaven and back 🫏

April is a donkey of a grand old age, and today she really demonstrated just what a wonky donkey she is. With buzzards and ravens soaring overhead on such a beautiful day, I took her rug off so she could soak up some sunshine on her back.

A bit of quality time scratching those hard-to-reach itches, and wow… what a performance 😆 she is the ultimate honkey-Tonkin wonky wonky donkey!

Piglets are taught not just what to eat, but how to eat like a pig “Smack those lips kids”.

They catch on fast!

Listening to one of my friends eating the other day inspired me to write this post 😆
